National Park Service Gun Ban Repealed!
#1
I watched this debate and vote in the House of Reps. today on C-Span. This is pretty much a done deal, and although Obama still has to sign the bill, it is expected he will sign it by the end of the week. Right now it looks like law abiding citizens have won this battle.

Good news!

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill today that included an amendment to repeal the gun ban on National Park Service (NPS) land and wildlife refuges.

The amendment, sponsored by Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) and attached to a credit card industry reform bill, passed the House overwhelmingly by a vote of 279-147.

For decades, law-abiding citizens have been prohibited from exercising their Second Amendment rights on NPS land and wildlife refuges, even if the state in which the land is located allows carrying firearms.

With some limited exceptions for hunting, the only way to legally possess a firearm anywhere in a national park is by having it unloaded and inaccessible, such as locked up in an automobile trunk. A Bush administration regulation partially reversed the ban, but that action was singlehandedly negated recently by an activist judge in Washington, D.C. The Department of Interior decided not to appeal that ruling.

Senator Coburn believes, like you do, that Americans should not be forced to sacrifice their Second Amendment rights when entering NPS land and wildlife refuges.

I was happy to see that legislation pass too. I'm so sick of Obama. Now that the liberals finally got into the white house, its Sad to see the price of guns, ammo, reloading supplies, etc. go through the roof. Thats if you can even find what you want. People finally realized that with the left-thinkers in control, they might not be able to own guns that they want. Although I'm well armed, I wouldn't mind adding to my collection, but I just refuse to pay the price right now. If Obama wants to stimulate me into spending, then he needs to loosen up the gun laws so the prices will come down. However, I realize as long as he and his liberal jackasses are in power, the price of guns, ammo, etc. will be out of control. Ok, I better shut up for now before I start talking like I'm on Freeform and get banned from BFT.

Quote: Interior Spokeswoman’s Statement on New Firearms Law for Parks and RefugesProvision will take effect in nine months
WASHINGTON, D.C. – WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Department of the Interior spokeswoman Kendra Barkoff issued the following statement regarding the enactment of a new firearms law for national parks and wildlife refuges that will take effect in nine months:
“The Department of the Interior will follow Congress’s directive and implement the new firearms law, which states that its provisions will take effect nine months from today. For the time being, the current Reagan Administration regulations governing possession of firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges remain in place. Under the current regulation, firearms are generally prohibited, but citizens may transport unloaded and dismantled or cased firearms and carry firearms while participating in approved hunting programs and under certain other circumstances. “As Interior prepares to implement the new law, the Department will work to understand and interpret its implications for our national parks and wildlife refuges, with public safety and the safety of our employees as our foremost consideration. Because possession of loaded weapons on national parks and wildlife refuges will be governed by varying state firearms laws once the new law is implemented, the Department will provide guidance to the more than 24,000 professionals who manage our parks and refuges and the more than 310 million people who visit our parks and refuges each year.”

Of course it's Obama's fault[mad]. Oh wait Obama signed the bill that reverses the law Reagan signed back in 1981 banning loaded firearms in National Parks. This paranoia is the best thing that ever happened to the gun industry. The're selling all their stock at a premium- lots of jobs and big profits in the industry.

Riverdog,

Come on man, you don't really think Obama would have signed the Gun portion of this bill on it's own merits do ya?

Hell, he would not even stand up and appeal the Anti-Gun judge's decision earlier this year that reinstated the Reagan era rule that Bush had already overturned.

The plain and simple fact is if it were not for Sen. Corburn successfully amending this to Obama's pet credit card bill that he wouldn't dare veto, it would not be a law.

As for the paranoia some of it is unjustified, but a large portion of it is absolutely to be blamed on Obama and the liberal side of the Democratic party. Between Obama's campaign rhetoric of passing national laws eliminating CCW permits nation wide, to the post election rhetoric of reinstating the Assault Weapon ban by not only his Attorney General, Secretary of State, but he himself had it on his own Presidential Whitehouse website until just a few weeks ago. Then you have about eight anti-gun bills in Congress that has been introduced by liberal Democrats. This type of propoganda does nothing but add fuel to the paranioa. But there is a bright side to this, at least our citizens are the most armed they have ever been!

If Obama wants the American Citizens to actually beleive he stands for the 2nd Amendment rights of law abiding citizens, there are several bills in Congress right now that would solidify our rights he should push Congress too pass. But he won't, and I guarantee that if he is to sign anymore gun related bills during his presidency, they will either be bills restricting our rights, or they will be pro rights bills that are attached to legislation that he would not dare veto.
