Judge rules states can kill problem sea lions - StacyR - 02-16-2013

Looks like the animal rights whackaloons lost their bid to prevent Washington and Oregon from killing problem sea lions that enter the Columbia to feast on endangered salmon and steelhead. Excuse me while I shed a tear. Or not.

Sweet! Let's have that judge rule on the pelicans at Blackfoot res. too!

Now if we could only get them to do away with the gill netting that just so happens to affect those same threatened and endagered species... we would be onto something!

I was thinking the same thing about those freaking pelicans, but everyone beat me too it. I hate those things.

The things I hate the worst (worse than pelicans & sea lions) & would love to see shot & killed are those damn black cormorants since they've gotten to be so many of them damn things it's awful! Not only they get a lot of the planter trout in most Idaho waters but they are hard on the perch population in a lot of lakes. A good cormorant is a dead one!

Makes me wonder how much of our yearly license fees goes to feeding those white feathered varmints across the state.

Personally I think they should be listed as such (varmints). I can't imagine being able to shoot one leagley would do much to the overall population. As they would not exactly be that easy to shoot with a shotgun. It would however be nice to push them off our prized bodies of water by folks taking shots at them on a regular basis. I know I would give up a few shells to the cause!

Ever since they cleaned out the remnants of my favorite bass reservoir last summer after it was drawn down, I have hated pelicans. Especially after learning how much they eat every day.

I HATE pelicans & cormorants both.[bobAngry] I think the cormorants are the worst thing there is as far as destroying fish populations since not only they get into flocks & there is getting to be so many of them plus are able to stay underwater for quite awhile but them damn things are capable of swallowing a a fish (depending on the species) as big as 14"+. They've been a big problem for me at one of my fishing holes by me called the American Falls Reservoir since not only they get a big percentage of the planter trout but I blame the cormorants along with this reservoir getting drawn down so low on a lot of years like last fall is why the perch fishing has been way slower than normal.[bobSad]l

I hear you, the cormorants sound pretty awful. I'm glad there aren't many down my way. Yet. The pelicans on Condie last year were in a group of over 150 birds on that little puddle. After hearing they eat at least a couple pounds of fish a day each, I'm pretty disgusted by the whole thing. I sure hope we get some more precipitation as I don't want a repeat on one of the surviving reservoirs.

The article says the sea lions can be shot. WHERE DO I SIGN UP FOR THAT!

I think I'll add "Sea Lion Shooter" to my list of jobs I'd do for free, right after the guy who gets to shoot wolves from a helicopter. Happy happy happy!!
