Utah State has become incredibly greedy.
$193.50 to register my boat is ridiculous.
Even more insane is the $61.00 to register a single axle 18' trailer!!!
Anyone ever fought the trailer registration fee and won?

Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately, my trailer does weigh over 750.
I wouldn't mind if it was a flat fee like $20 or so, $61 is insane.
Please bring the lottery to Utah!

That's the only loop hole I know of. Too bad your trailer is one of the few single-axles that go over weight. Usually single-axle open trailers are under, and double-axle or enclosed are over.
I do agree its getting kind of pricey registering toys in Utah these days.

Just be glad you aren't registering 5 cars and 2 boats every year, but you gotta pay to play....

1975 KMart 12ft aluminum boat bought for $350 used in maybe 1990.
$51 to put the stickers on, 15% of my purchase cost every year. That's probably more than KMart made on the original sale price going to Utah every single year. It's definitely ridiculous. Tacking on the additional $10 fee for a joke of mussel program that is doomed to failure is also the State and it's agencies seeking growth and funding from implementing fee's because the actual Tax Assessment is difficult to justify.

And also, let's not forget the extra $5 fee added for the State Parks. Those 2 fees raised everybody's boat fees an additional $15. I'm not sure if they applied to boat trailers as well. I have 9 registration units totaling $753.50. Aaaarrrggh! [/#800000][/font]

I've owned two boat trailers that were tandem axle and I didn't bother registering either of them. Never had a problem. I figured if I ever got pulled over and asked about it I'd just say, "I assumed they were under 750lbs." I had no desire to weigh my trailers or to pay the fee. With a single axle trailer I'd definitely take the chance on not registering it. I really doubt anyone would go to the trouble of having it weighed so they could give you a ticket, especially since most trailers of that type are under the weight limit.
