Lamson Liquid
#1
For those that don't already know, Lamson has come out with a new fly reel, the Liguid. For the money not a bad value I think .99.95 for the #2. The best deal is called the 3 pack ,and it comes with a reel ,and two spare spools for 149.95 for the #2 ,and also comes with a pretty nice nylon carrying case . Great price for a Lamson. Have not fished with it yet , so can't give any info there.

The drag system on them is apparently the same as the higher end Lamson's. Its their only offshore I believe, and is a cast reel, cast probably in china, but apparently all the machine work is done in Boise, Id where the rest are made.

I've been waiting to check these reels out. Might be the best reasonable reel for those who fish several lines and need multiple spools. Looking forward to seeing reports on them.

Hopefully I will be able to give some kind of report this coming week.

It is a great package deal for sure. It is made in Asia and assembled in Idaho, but Lamson does inspect this with their name on it. With the same technology as the upper end, just not the same material, killer deal.
Good call on this reel.

Ya i'm pretty sure all their other reels are machined aluminum stock, whereas this reel is cast aluminum, but with the same drag system. We will see how it does. I have an old Okuma Sierra that I can't wear out, it kind of wore its welcome out, and is far from a high end reel . I think these Lamson's will do well .

I have a Remix three pack and love it. Very smooth with tight tolerances.

That must be something pretty new Lamson has no mention of a Remix 3 pack on their website. I also googled the Remix 3 pack, and can find no sites with them. Could you reference a link to them, a three pack in the Remix would also be a great option.

Sorry, mistyped there. I have the Liquid 3 pack.

I do have a Remix though they don't offer the three pack as you know. They appear to be the same reel with the Remix having a finish that feels a bit smoother.

Both fantastic reels but that Three Pack is a real winner and the case it comes in is great too.

The Remix uses the same spool as the Liquid but has a machined frame so is somewhat stronger and lighter.

They are calling the Remix a hybrid reel. It would be great if they offered it also in a 3 pack. Having the same spools they could do like they do with the Liguid charge around 50.00 more for the package over the cost of the reel .

Yep, hybrid, i.e. Machined Frame and Cast Spool.

I think maybe they will but don't right now as a marketing/cost thing. Too bad though, I think it would make a nice stillwater option at a very reasonable price.

Yes ,I would have been all over that deal.

My only real concern with the Liquid is the cast frame, and dropping it on a hard surface, of course dropping any reel on a hard surface is not a good idea .

Which is very possible with most "stillwaters" right now....Laughing.
Should be safe at DC though[Wink]
I have a Tibor Spring Creek that is cast and a wonderful reel.

I think that for around here, a cast reel more than fits the bill - its just less aesthetically pleasing. Besides, a machined reel can take a beating if dropped as well. The boat prep area on the Green right below the dam seems particularly nasty to any and all reels.

Ya, some of those stillwater surfaces would be hell on a cast reel right now, but should be safe at deer Creek [laugh]

Speaking of Deer Creek hopefully thursday or friday if weather will cooperate a little, tomorrow looks crappy so bagged that, but rest of the week looks pretty good.

As far as reels go I have a couple higher end reels Ross, and Lamson, and I feel like this Liquid is going to be a keeper.

I wouldn't worry much about the cast aluminum. Car wheels are cast and they take a beating.

I used to have an Orvis Rocky Mountain that I dropped more times than I could count. The only real damage that happened was the painted on green surface was chipped all over. But it kept going until I lost it along with the rod it was connected to.

I am glad you brought up the Rocky Mountain. What a great reel and I think it was made in England. One of the first Cartridges.
My motorcycle wheels are cast.

They were great reels. Wish I still had it. Seemed the missing paint gave it character.
