Hurricane Odile Strikes Hard in Los Cabos!!!
(Update on Odile and JcSportfishing)
First, I want to thank everyone who has been following our fish report over the last 2 and a half years. We want to say we are sorry about not being able to do the fish report over the last 3 weeks. As you all know we did have a pretty destructive storm hit all of Los Cabos and we would like to insure everyone that the clean up is under way and we are all working hard to get things back in order after Hurricane Odile struck Cabo San Lucas and the surrounding areas. As we speak most lights and water are on in in Cabo. I would also like to say that Jc Sportfishing Charter boats and out office are all intact and we will be operating as normal when flights resume back into Cabo on October 8th. W e are ok and are asking for your patience as we put everything back in order. We would also like to express to you that a very big clean up is under way in Los Cabos and things are coming back to normal at this very moment. Thousands of workers from the light company have arrived in Cabo and working very hard to get all electricity back up and running in all areas of Los Cabos. This has been an amazing site seeing all jurisdictions of the government working together to make Cabo the fantastic tourist destination that it is and always will be. We would also like to assure you that security is strong all through town and in all areas as the Federal Police have arrived in town in huge numbers and are doing a great job, doing everything from directing traffic, to walking through town insuring security for all business and the towns people. Please do not be scared to come back to Cabo, as normal flights will resume on October 8th. Most major airlines will be starting to fly back to the area and most major hotels will be up and running by then and we expect most things to get back to normal here by mid October to the first part of November. If you did have plans to come to Cabo when flights start back, we would recommend that you come back as normal help support this beautiful destination.
Cabo is Recovering at a Unbelievable Fast Pace!!!
The recovery efforts are already well under way in Los Cabos, with power partially restored in many areas, Mexican governmental agencies on the ground, providing local support, many resorts and villas deep into the cleanup phase and reports of many restaurants, shops and grocery stores reopening. Banks have reopened as well. It will take several more weeks for the storm cleanup effort, however all signs are promising for a rapid recovery. Phone, cell and internet service are being restored. As tourism lies at the heart of the Los Cabos economy, we’re confident that the turnaround for the destination to be fully operational will be speedy in the coming weeks and months.

Every day brings more business openings, more good news, more optimism! Literally tens of thousands of Cabo citizens have taken to the streets, cleaning and repairing, getting Cabo ready for international flights to arrive again beginning October 8. You can't believe the spirit, one mission, working together with one common purpose. Cabo spirit is everywhere, and the recovery has been, and continues to be, nothing short of Miraculous.
CFE (the Electric Company) has been nothing short of heroic throughout. Hurricane Odile was reportedly the worst electricity and communications disaster to ever hit Mexico, and 75% of Cabo is already back with power, and 99% of the rest of Baja California Sur (including Todos Santos, La Paz, Loreto, etc). Nobody can still believe the work these guys have done, and are still doing! Not only CFE but CONAGUA (the water company) and GAP (the airport) have been angels throughout.
The Mexican Government has been another hero during the whole recovery, with quick responses to humanitarian and security needs and full-on resource allocation to clean-up and recovery. Nobody does this better than Mexico, and they sure did not disappoint in Los Cabos. A huge thank you to President Nieto and all of his ministers for their hard work and priority in Los Cabos.
Social media has been alive with up to date reports of the recovery, complete with photos and business openings, showing how far behind the real story that the mainstream news has been throughout. It is a virtual army getting the real word out where sensationalist news is the norm. Thanks to everyone who has shared this site and others and helped to pass the word along to those who might otherwise not realize how it REALLY is in Cabo!
The Mexican Red Cross, working alongside the Government and many other wonderful and dedicated humanitarian groups has been a godsend, as have all the wonderful supporters of Cabo who have donated time, materials and money to the cause. This spirit of togetherness and support is so incredible, and Cabo thanks you so much!

Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have a memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Well lets get on with the fishing report for this past week.
WEATHER: Today weather is overcast and cloudy with some rain today around mid day. We do have another storm south of Cabo called Simon which has turned into a hurricane and is supposed to bring us rain here in Los Cabos but supposedly that is it. We are hoping that all hurricanes and storms are over for this season as we have had enough for many years. This has been a long hard hot summer and along with Odile has made it to the point where we want some cooler more stable weather.

BEWARE: Please beware of the guys in the street selling boat charters. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs? You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in next weeks fishing report. Until next time good fishing and we hope to see you in Cabo soon. Come by the office here in Cabo and get all the latest up to date fishing report.
