Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Well lets get on with the fishing report for this past week.
WEATHER: This week it has been more just plain hot compared to last week where it was really humid. I am not saying the humidly is gone but it has been pretty clear and more of a dry hot than a humid hot. We are getting a breeze in the evenings and it has helped to cool things off but it is still hot and you need the air conditioner to sleep right.
WATER: Please check out the tempbreak map as it seems like plenty of warm water around the whole bottom part of the baja peninsula. If you see the map please notice all the water in the 80,s with some cooler temperatures close to shore on the pacific side but when I say cool I am talking in the low 80,s with some areas on the Sea of Cortez side pushing 85 to 86 degrees. So basically we are in the zone for continued good fishing according to the temperatures as this is a great indicator of how the fishing will be this coming week as long as no storms around. TUNA: The Tuna fishing has been much better but the Tuna boats are still out there just not as many as last week. I t seems there is a lot of little schools of Tuna and most of the fish are in the 10lb to 20lb range. If you find the Porpoise you will find the Tuna and then if you use spreader bars with squid, king busters and cedar plugs you will catch fish and fill the cooler. We are running aways offshore to run into the Tuna normally 10 to 25 miles offshore.
BILLFISH: The Marlin fishing has been excellent over this past week. Lots of big Blue Marlin being caught with most being in the 200lb to 300lb range but there has been some exceptions as there were reports of one tipping the scales at 730lbs and another at 550lbs. There is still good numbers of Striped Marlin and Sailfish being landed also, so all and all, a great week for the Marlin fishing.
DORADO: The Dorado fishing is picking up and getting better as I have noticed many more Dorado flags flying on th boats coming back in from fishing. The fish seem to be more inshore close to the beach and most are being landed on lures and ballyhoo. It just isn’t like it was last year or really should be for example last year at this time you would have 5 or 6 fish at 25lb in an hour but that isn’t happening this year. The fish just don’t seem to be here in the schools we are used to seeing. I am not quite sure as your guess is as good as mine.
INSHORE: Again this week the Rooster fishing has just been ok with nothing great happening as most fish are being caught tight to the beach from Chileno Bay to as far north as Ranch Migrano and most being landed on live bait. A few smaller Dorado also close to shore from Grey Rock to the Light House and most fish landed on lures and ballyhoo. Some of the Pangas are picking up some Striped Marlin and Sailfish inshore on live bait and ballyhoo.
WAHOO: A few Wahoo this past week but really not to many that I have heard of over the week.

How to Smoke Tuna Steak
Tuna is a great alternative to smoking red meat as it is packed with proteins and vitamins and also low in fat. Tuna steak typically comes from Ahi tuna, which is the most high quality tuna you can purchase. Canned tuna usually comes from Albacore, which is a lesser quality tuna with a fishier smell. This recipe is made with Ahi tuna steaks, but you can also substitute yellow fin tuna steaks if you are unable to find Ahi due to seasonality. Lemon is one of the most popular flavors paired with tuna and helps to bring out the natural flavors of all fish. This lemon smoked tuna recipe is sure to please a variety of pallets who enjoy a nice tuna steak.
Lemon Smoked Tuna Recipe Ingredients
[ul][li]4 Ahi tuna steaks[/li][li]2 tablespoons olive oil[/li][li]2 tablespoons lemon juice[/li][li]2 tablespoons lemon pepper seasoning[/li][li]Salt and pepper to taste[/li][li]2 tablespoons minced garlic[/li][li]1 lemon, sliced[/li][li]1 bag of charcoal (if you have a charcoal smoker)[/li][li]1 bottle of lighter fluid or a charcoal chimney starter[/li][li]1 or 2 bags of [url "http://www.smokegrillbbq.com/smoker-wood.html"]wood chips[/url] of your choice[/li][/ul]
Lemon Smoked Tuna Recipe Directions
[ol][li]About and hour before you want to start cooking, combine your olive oil, lemon juice, lemon pepper seasoning, salt, pepper, and minced garlic together and rub it directly on both sides of the Ahi tuna steaks. Place a slice of lemon directly on each of your tuna steak fillets. Make sure your lemon tuna steaks are either sitting on ice or left in the refrigerator to keep them chilled during this time.[/li][li][url "http://www.smokegrillbbq.com/how-to-light-charcoal-grills.html"]Light your charcoal[/url] smoker approximately 30 minutes, or 10 minutes before with a gas grill, before you want to start cooking. [/li][li]Wrap your wood chips in an aluminum foil pouch or a metal smoker box. Punch holes in the foil pouch to let the smoke escape out the top.[/li][li]Next simply put your Ahi tuna steak fillets on the grates of your smoker.[/li][li]Check the lemon smoked tuna about a half hour into the smoking time and flip your tuna steaks. Be careful that the tuna doesn't flake apart and fall through the grates by using a large spatula that can slide completely under the tuna steaks. Smoke the tuna for another half hour and your tuna should be ready to take off the smoker and serve. Garnish the lemon smoked tuna with a freshly sliced lemon.[/li][/ol]

The cooking time for this lemon smoked tuna is about 1 hour. Some people like to eat Ahi tuna steaks rare or with sushi, so you really can't go wrong when it comes to the cooking time on this recipe. You just want to leave the tuna steaks on the smoker long enough to absorb the smoky flavor of your wood chips.
[center]Yellow Fin Tuna[/center]
Yellowfin tuna are torpedo-shaped with dark metallic blue backs, yellow sides, and a silver belly. They have very long anal and dorsal fins and finlets that are bright yellow. Yellowfin can live up to six or seven years. They are highly migratory and are found throughout the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Oceans. They form schools with other tunas like skipjack and bigeye, and are also known to associate with dolphins.
BEWARE: Please beware of the guys in the street selling boat charters. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs? You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license.
