Jc Sportfishing Weekly Fish Report.
As the Admiral Seas It
Fishing Report: 2/17/14 to 2/24/14
Stop by Our Office for up to Date Fishing Report.

Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him have a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families, and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can cater to fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.

WEATHER: The weather has been really good over the last week and the wind has died down quite a bit. It has been actually a little warmer than normal for this time of year. There really hasn’t been a winter here to speak of with temperatures above average. I would say today it was pushing 85 to 90 degrees in the day time and lows into the ladder 50,s to mid 60,s

WATER: Marlin fishing hasnt been effected by cooler water temperatures but it has hurt the Dorado and Tuna bite. When the cool water comes in we can expect a Yellowtail bite and always great Sierra and inshore action.
TUNA: The Tuna bite has slowed but one of our boat on Saturday went looking for the Tuna outside of the Jamie Banks about 27 miles offshore and we found a small school of Porpoise and we ran into some Tuna landing 20 Tuna in the 25lbs to 35lbs range. We ended up landing them on cedar plugs, well needless to say the people aboard were very happy clients

BILLFISH: Well the Marlin fishing has gone nuts over this last week with our boats hooking, and releasing 2to5 Marlin per charter. Most of the fish are being caught up and around the Golden Gate and we are pitching live bait, using lures and drifting bait. Just about everything we throw at them they are hitting. Striped Marlin fishing continued to be the dominant fish on the pacific side throughout last week. We have also had some luck off the Light House earlier in the week and the 1150 and 95 spots the fish were on the surface hitting lures.
DORADO: Very few Dorado around and any being caught are being caught along the beach on lures. There has been some Dorado reported caught down towards San Jose tight to the beach and slowed trolling has been effective.

Sierra Ceviche Recipe
The first time I made ceviche, I was amazed. I could actually see the lemon and lime juice turning the color of the fish from translucent pink to opaque white. The acid from the limes and lemons change the structure of the proteins in the fish, essentially “cooking” the fish without using heat. I love ceviche rolled up in a freshly cooked, still warm corn tortilla with lettuce and salsa.
Ceviche Recipe
[ul][li]Yield: Serves 4-8.[/li][/ul]
Preparation time: 15 minutes to prepare, 3-4 hours to let sit. Always use the freshest fish possible. Make the same day you purchase fresh fish.
Ingredients
[ul][li]2 lbs of firm, fresh red snapper fillets (or other firm-fleshed fish), cut into 1/2 inch pieces, completely deboned[/li][li]1/2 cup of fresh squeezed lime juice[/li][li]1/2 cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice[/li][li]1/2 red onion, finely diced[/li][li]1 cup of chopped fresh seeded tomatoes[/li][li]1 serrano chili, seeded and finely diced[/li][li]2 teaspoons of salt[/li][li]Dash of ground oregano[/li][li]Dash of Tabasco or a light pinch of cayenne pepper[/li][/ul]
[ul][li]Cilantro[/li][li]Avocado[/li][li]Tortillas or tortilla chips[/li][/ul] Method
In a non-reactive casserole dish, either Pyrex or ceramic, place the fish, onion, tomatoes, chili, salt, Tabasco, and oregano. Cover with lime and lemon juice. Let sit covered in the refrigerator for an hour, then stir, making sure more of the fish gets exposed to the acidic lime and lemon juices. Let sit for 1 hour, giving time for the flavors to blend.
During the marinating process the fish will change from pinkish grey and translucent, to whiter in color and opaque.
Serve with chopped cilantro and slices of avocado with heated tortillas for ceviche tacos or with tortilla chips.

Some Yellowtail being caught on pacific side jigging iron at about 120ft. I went out on Wednesday and we caught 5 and 1 Amberjack. The inshore fishing is fantastic this time of year even had reports of Snappers and Groupers being caught in about 50ft of water using cut bait.
WAHOO: This week a slowed Wahoo bite reported compared to last week. I haven’t heard of any reports this week.
BEWARE: Please beware of the guys in the street selling boat charters. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs? You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in next weeks fishing report. Until next time good fishing and we hope to see you in Cabo soon. Come by the office here in Cabo and get all the latest up to date fishing report.
