Hey Guys...
I've got a leak somewhere in my gore-tex stockingfoot waders and I keep getting out of the water with my left leg all wet (from about mid-thigh all the way down). A while back I accidentally stuck a hook through them and got a little hole, but then I patched it up with the repair kit that came with the waders when I bought them. It's held up and kept me nice and dry until now. I'm not positive, but I think that the water is getting in somewhere along the edge of the patch. How do I figure out where the hole is at exactly? Anyone have tips for locating the hole? Thanks for the help...

I asked this question awhile back about my neoprene waders. TubeDude gave me this suggestion:
Turn them inside out, then fill up the left leg with water(have a permanent marker handy) and watch where the leak comes from. Mark it with the marker then let it dry and patch it up. Good luck!

Hey there SturgeonKid, in addition to what catman said it is important to remove some of the protective lining on the inside of the waders before applying the patch. If the leak appears to be somewhere along the seams, then you will need to consult TubeDude. He has some good stuff for the seams.
If infact that you are in need of some new waders, there is a chain retailer in SoCal that has the Sterns 3.5 neoprenes for $40 bucks. The stores name is Sport Chalet. I just bought some for my son and a new pair for myself at the price that you can usually expect to pay for 1. Good luck there buddy.
I will be on the pursuit of Tommy this weekend.

[cool]Hey, Kid, Cat_Man gave the standard first line of repair. What was left out is that patches don't always do a good job. I have been recommending the AquaSeal stuff. It is a flexible and waterproof patch that sticks to almost anything...from neoprene to pantyhose...not that I wear the latter, mind you. You should be able to find it at most of the bigger fishing outlets...or places they sell water toys or skin diving gear.
It is not a fast setup. Unless you also buy the Cotol accellerant, it will take about 24 hours to really cure. If you mix in some Cotol, it will be useable in about 2 hours.
I quit using patches a long time ago...when I discovered Aquaseal. It works well for repairing the vinyl and butyl air chambers on the modern tubes too.
PM me if you need any more immoral support.

Hey Guys...
Thanks for the help. I just found the hole, and it turns out my patch job from before wasn't as bad as I thought. Apparently it's an all new hole about 4" below the old one...

Hey TD...
I forgot to mention, my waders came with some of that Aquaseal stuff. [ ] I made the repair yesterday, and was back out in the water this morning and stayed dry as whistle! Plus I caught some good fish as an added bonus, har har! [ ]

[cool]Life is good...and even better when you can fish warm and dry.
I went out for awhile this morning on Saguaro. They just planted some hatchery pet rainbows and the local fly floggers were lined up trying to catch them in only a few inches of water. I was hoping someone had rung the dinner bell for the bass.
I had a big blowup on my first cast, with one of those prop topwaters. Then, I hooked and jumped about a six pounder. All the bass boats roared in on me and my fishing was done. Nobody else got bit all morning. I did have a couple more fish, and took home a fat channel cat. See the story and pics on the Utah board. Oh, what the heck, I'll post it here too.

Maybe it's just me, but it sounds like lately you keep picking the days to go fishing when no one else is getting bit either. LoL! I've pretty much just about had to put my topwaters away for the season! It got REAL cold here REAL quicklike. I dunno what the water temp is, but they ain't comin' up for my topwaters! LoL. I still take a shot at it every so often with a Super Spook in hopes of THE BIG ONE. I've got a couple of swimbaits that I've started throwing around as well without any luck yet. They started planting the trout in the lake a month or so ago. Right now though, on my lake, they're taking the water level down for the winter, leaving a lot of cover high and dry. So, a lot of the bass have moved back onto the rip rap on the dam, and I'm catching a lot of good fish with jig-n-pigs and crankbaits. The fish are loadin' up on craws more than anything. I haven't caught a fish on ay kind of shad immitating lure in about a month! I do love a good jig bite though [ ]
P.S. I'm comin' to AZ again for Thanksgiving. I'm ready to catch that 10lber I lost last year in Val Vista. Har Har!!

[cool]Hey, I was going to ask if you were able to make it for turkey day again. That's great. TubeN2 and his son will be here too. We will have to get together.
Sounds like your local fishies have evolved into the winter mode. Praise be to the old deadly J & P. Have you used up all of that stuff I downloaded on your last trip here?
I haven't had much time to work on some of my new ideas, but I have a souple of new things for you to look at...including a buzzbait that is built on a hammered nickle spoon...with the clear plastic buzzblade in front. Rides high on slow retrieves, with lots of extra flash and wiggle. I have some made, and had a scan, but lost it when my computer got trashed at the shop last week.
How big are the fish running right now? Sometimes you can find them schooling up in the late fall, with some bigguns in the bunch. Also, how deep are they? Are they still easily fishable, or do you have to dredge for them?

Hey there SturgeonKid,
You're a little young maybe but wasn't your post title the name of a Beatles song? Now I can't get it out of my mind.
I had any number of occasions when I was wearing jeans under my waders where I developed a leak and the jeans seemed to form a warmed layer of water (no! not that!) and I stayed comfy will enjoying viewing the snow on Mt. Fuji and catching winter bass!

Hey there SturgeonKid, It would be nice to cross lines with you on turkey day if you could pull it off. I'm sure we could share some memories as well as some top secret stuff. I will be taking a small arsenal with me to TubeDudes house and hope I have the right toys for his playground.
See you there if you can make it.

Ya, I'm up for meeting up when I come on over to AZ. I'll give you my cell phone number when the time starts gettin' closer here. I think my flight leaves somewhere around the 25th??? I can't remember. LoL.
Yup, I think the fish here have moved into winter mode as well. There really was hardly ever the classic kind of "fall-time" bite here. It was kind of lame. There was about a span of a week or two when I was catching a bunch of fish on ripbaits but that's about it. We kind of jumped right into winter here. It was kinda lame. LoL. And no, I haven't used all the stuff I got from ya last time. haha. Pork lasts forever!! [crazy] I have been usin' it quite a bit the last week though. Most of the fish I'm catching on the jig are pretty solid fish. 2-5lbers mainly. I can usually put together a sack of about 14-17lbs. I haven't gotten any over 5.5 though since this jig bite turned on. However, I'm expecting a big one in the mix at any time now. [ ] I need to get out on the Delta again is what I need to fo. I haven't been out there in more than a month. I also found a good crankbait bite a couple of days ago using a deep diving Poe's red craw crankbait. I found some fish stacked up on the very edge of a rip-rap bank where it turns into mud. 2-4lbers there. But I heard a guy caught an 8lber not too long ago cranking that same rip-rap bank, and I suspect that edge is where he caught it. The jig fish and crank fish aren't too deep. If the sun comes out to play one day, then the jig fish move right up on the rocks right next to the bank. Last Monday that's what happened and the fish would slam my jig almost as soon as it landed in the water a mere 6" from the bank. I missed a few fish because they'd hit the jig so quick-like and so viciously, and then I go to set the hook, and just that quickly they've already carried my jig out to deeper water underneath of me and on the other side! However, if it's overcast and raining like it usually has been, then they move farther off the bank into 5-12ft of water. So those fish are still easily accessible, however, I have located a bunch of fish on a deepwater ledge in about 30-40ft of water, and I've been catching them by split-shotting plastic craws, but who wants to fish that deep when you can fish a jig or crank elsewhere? Har Har [cool]
