took the canoe out to the lake weds, on the water right at first light. tied on a top water popper, first cast 16 inch smallmouth. went out a little further and got a few stripers. Thursday I went back out a little before sun up. Tried top water in the dark for nothing. then i dragged some anchovies on the bottom for a while, nothing. went to shore to stretch till sunrise and casted an anchovie out while on dry land and got a few 2 pound or less channel cats before getting back in the boat, and hitting the top water again. Got a few real small smallmouths right at shore, then a 12 in largemouth off shore about 25 yards. Then a good largemouth finally hit, took him to shore real quick took a few pictures and let him go. pretty good few days.

yeah, i drive my 2 wheel drive jeep right to the water at boxcar and crawdad no problem. just slow cause they have it grated and it rattles you around alot if you go faster. I never tried that 8 mile road but on google earth it looks to me that it just goes down to the other side of gov. wash/cove that i can tell. I think crawdad might be a little easier to fish from shore, but they are very similar coves
