lake mead 5/28/12

[cool]Launched from 33 hole in the tube at gray light and headed for the wash. Caught first two stripers within the first 20 minutes. They were small so spanked them and sent them home. Kicked to the first two rock towers and caught four small lmb; about 8"-10" models all released. Had enough fun so went south of 33 hole for better action. Caught more small lmbs and one about 1.5lbs. Kicked over to another cove and got hammered on the beetlespin by a 2.4lb striper who came home for tacos. A couple more small lmbs and a dink striper and called it a day. Great weather with slight breeze and surprisingly not too many boats. A couple pics of where the bass like it.

Awesome. Figured Mead, any lake for that matter, would of been a nightmare to be on with the holiday and all. I avoided even leaving the house this weekend. I use to like holidays when I was younger but now days dread crowds so don't do squat and make them honey doo weekend.

Nice!

I stayed off the lake thinking the ramps and the jetards would be nightmarish.

RE: catching bass....Have you followed up that bettlespin with a watermelon fluke or maybe a 6" senko? I've been rigging the senkos with the 3/0 Gamakatsu heavyweight hook you would use for braid to make them sink a little faster and deeper. Mono-peg the senko through the hook eye with a piece of 40# mono.

I too stayed home during the 3-day weekend. I hate crowds and especially the jetards. Looks like I should have gone anyway. Oh well, there is always next weekend. I'll be joining the Las Vegas Kayakers at Calville Bay for some touring instead of fishing (I'll still pack a pole or two if it looks too good to pass up).

[cool]No I haven't. I usaully just toss the beetlespin back in. Sometimes I will cruise back later and throw a grub or fluke.

Good stuff man... I had the boat loaded and ready to go but couldn't bring myself to go knowing the crowds that would be there.... Oh well now I can kick myself since I didn't go.... I haven't got to fish off my boat yet dang it haha....

Launched Wednesday afternoon from Callville and I asked the shuttle driver how the Memorial weekend went. They opened all the parking lots to overflow traffic...even the low water lot. she said good thing was no paramedics and no deaths but a lot of DUI's issued.

Fishing up in the coves near the Narrows I found smallmouth with shad in them...We released the bass but they burped up shad coming in. no bass of any size..
