Lake Mead - Echo Bay 05/09
#1
Decided that i was in need of a day off so **cough cough*** Sick day....Ended up at the lake with a friend of mine on his pontoon. Hit the water at about 5:20 am, nice weather, a little breeze. My friend caught the first fish on his second cast, just a dink striper. for the next 5 hrs.....nothing! A lot of top water activity but the coves were overrun with carp. I am not sure if they are in spawn or what but every cove we hit had tons and it looked like they had pushed out the LMB and SMB. Didnt get many bites or even see many bass except for a few schools of striper.

Got frustrated casting so we threw out a couple of 7 inch AC plug Minnows and trolled for a couple hours. That was the ticket! Ended the day with about 15 stripers in the boat, 1-4 lbs in size, nothing spectacular but at least we found what they were interested in. Had our best luck entering coves, pretty much pulled at least one out of each on a slow troll.

The LMB and SMB on the other hand I think were still upset at us from the last outing...not one in the boat.

Sorry, no pics this time. Wasn't really any worth the pics.

Were you trolling rainbow pattern AC's?

Yes! I was digging through my buddies tackle box and he had a couple of the production models they used to sell at the bass pro shop, he bought them about 3 years ago. They are really poor quality (sorry Alan) compared to the new stuff but i think that's one of the down falls they had back in the day with that product when they mass produced the hard baits. The paint WAS rainbow, i say was cause now cause a lot came off. It was nice to see how the stripers were hammering them though.

I have a couple of 7" handmade's that i am going to have to remember next time I head out.

Good to know. I don't think the color matters all that much anyway, it's the action that gets them biting. Yes you're right, that is why Alan only endorses the ones he makes by hand. Thanks for the info.
