Lake Mead 04/30 - North of Echo
#1
Finally got a chance to get back on the water. Launched out of Echo at 5:00 am and hit a couple of coves on the way up North. Had some pretty good luck hitting the LMB and SMB off points near big water. Big fish of the day was a 7lb LMB, followed by a 5 lb LMB on the very next cast. Pulled in a couple of stout smallies, big one topped 2.5 lbs. I was exclusively fishing football jibs with craw trailer dropping it in a couple feet from shore and dragging / jigging it out to 15-25 ft depth. Lot of fish hiding in the brush about 15 of water. We didnt catch a large volume of fish, i think 10-12 all together between 4 of us. The wind was blowing pretty good and made it difficult to focus on an area for more then 1 or 2 casts.

All fish were released.

Good catches. I need to work more on Jigs, plastics, etc. I just don't have the patience to slowly drag them around and know I need to. I like to power fish/keep busy. I am missing out on a ton of fish and bigger fish fishing that way. I did hook into one last Friday on a jig. Would of been my first. He came off shortly after the hook-up.

This was my first time really fishing jigs for more then an hour and it payed off. The key was the trailer, my friend was just fishing the jig with no trailer and wasnt having any luck. Last year i pretty much fished finese and drop shot all year, this year i am focusing on football jigs and swim jigs. Last weekend we hit sand hollow with the same set up and pulled in quite a few.

Nice bass man. Where is your BFT sign? Haha, that could have been the winner. [fishin]

Nice work man, I'm jealous! Taking the girlfriend out to the same area and will try your techniques. I'm wondering if these patterns will work through the summer months? Maybe a a bit deeper? Trying to get back into fishing after several years of slacking, I'll take any advice I can get.

Its all good, be on the look out for more, heading back out Sunday to check on a spot we saw some pretty big ones hanging out in the brush. This time we are going to try not to spook them with the boat.

This time of the year two rods I always have on the front deck are a jig rod and a senko rod.. Switch up the weights and sizes on the jigs till you find what they like. A little tip, the craws molt this time of year every 30 days with the change in moon phases, so change colors accordingly. black/red Louisiana craws were introduced into Mead years ago plus there are native craws.

Think about switching over to a bluegill color as they are next to spawn in bass areas.
