Bear Lake Report or lack there of
#1
Took the scouts up to Camp Hunt at Bear Lake and brought my boat so they could work on some fun merit badges. I was also committed to catching my first lake trout. I didn't get alot of time but when I had some free time I would head out to about 40-50 feet of water and jig. Tube jigs tipped with chub meat, big deer hair jig and a just a chub on a hook failed to produce any hits.

I would see big schools of fish come under the boat - cisco? whitefish? bear lake monster? - and some large fish hugging the bottom but no takers.

I tried trolling rapalas by Swan Creek and casting tube jigs in 10-15 feet of water for cutts without so much as a nibble.

Even brought a fly rod to try for some carp but there's so much flooded vegetation those buggers are pretty spread out - except of course in the marina.

Still, its beautiful up there, water almost 70 degrees and the kids loved boating and learning to ski. Surprisingly few mosquitoes was a huge bonus.
