KISSIMMEE, FLORIDA - The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Toho April 16 for the fourth of five stops in the Gator Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.
"It is mostly going to be a post spawn bite," said Band-Aid/Neosporin pro Glenn Browne of Ocala, Fla. "I would use a Gambler Big EZ or topwater frog right now. The key is going to be finding that big bite. It will take at least one, maybe two, 6 ½ - 7-pounders to win, I think the winning weight is going to be about 22 to 25 pounds.
"Fishing muscles beds mid lake using a Carolina rig or Rat-L-Trap might produce a bit bite as well," Browne added. "The fish are starting to move off shore right now so it could produce a winning pattern. We have had a lot of rain recently and if that continues the locks may be opened so fishing near the mouths of canals could come into play."
Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Big Toho Marina located at 101 Lakeshore Boulevard in Kissimmee. Takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 3 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing - the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
