Update for Castaic Lake

[cool] Hey there everyone,

THE NEWEST INFO ON CASTAIC IS THAT THEY ARE EXTENDING THEIR PLANNED SHUTDOWN FOR SEPT 7TH. THEY ARE GETTING READY TO GO INTO LITIGATION WITH THE STATE ON TAKING THE LAKE BACK FROM LA COUNTY. LA COUNTY STILL HAS A 50YR LEASE ON THE LAKE AND CAN'T AFFORD TO STAFF IT AND STOCK IT. THE STATE ALREADY HAS 8.9 MILLION DOLLARS SET ASIDE FOR HELPING OUT SMALL LAKES BUT WON'T PUSH A DIME OF MONEY TOWARDS THE CASTAIC LAKE RECREATIONAL AREA.

AFTER SEPT 7TH THERE WILL BE NO STAFF AT THE LAKE UNLESS SOMETHING CAN BE SETTLED. BY THE WAY, THE STATE RECORD LMB THAT WAS PULLED OUT OF THE UPPER LAKE AND RELEASED INTO THE LOWER LAKE IS STILL LURKING AROUND. IT WAS REPORTED BEING SITED A FEW WEEKS AGO BY A FLOAT TUBER WITH FISHFINDER. THEY ARE ESTIMATING AROUND 30LB NOW. IT WAS AT 21LB 10OZ WHEN CAUGHT IN 91'.

IT IS TOO BAD THAT THEY WANT TO CLOSE THE LAKE. MY SON AND I WENT ON AUG 31. CAUGHT SOME LMB AND BLUE GILLS. ONLY KEPT ONE BLUEGILL THAT WAS 2.25LB. THAT WAS ONLY A POUND AND A QUARTER SHY OF THE STATE RECORD. I WILL HAVE PICS TO FOLLOW.

Thank you for the update. Will people still be able to fish this lake at thier own risk if they do close it and let all the staff go?

[size 1]Doubtful. If the do not staff the lake they will more than likely close it off and post Security there.[/size]

[size 1] They are still resposible for the lake and if anyone drowned or got hurt they would be liable. That doesn't mean people won't hop fences and fish [cool][/size]

[cool] I'm sure anyone can still walk in, but like you said" At your own risk". Their police dept is just around the corner from there. The parking situation is not very good either, if you don't mind walking 1/2 mile or so with your gear. You do the math and lets all hope that the County and the State can try to see eye to eye.
