Idiots hitting patrol cars.
#1
How many more incidents of idiots hitting police patrol cars are we going to have to put up with before a heavy hand comes down?

I'm not nor have I ever been a police officer but lately it seems that come clown is hitting an officers car almost weekly and that is really disturbing to me. Makes me madder'n he-- to put it bluntly.

I'm not into politics either but am willing to champion a move to get legislation enacted that will make these incidents punishable by a heavy fine. They should also lose their drivers license - maybe forever. If they can't pay enough attention to driving and what's happening around them, we really don't want them on the road.

Any BFTer that's of a like mind please shoot me a PM. I'll also welcome any suggestions as to how to go about getting a move like this started.

Thanx,

GEEZER

I completely agree. I made the comment to my wife as we were watching thenews last week. Something has to be done. I think they said it was the 12th time a patrol car/officer has been hit. The 12th time and we are only at January 24th. That is ridiculous. Something needs to be done ASAP to keep these men and women safe. They risk their life enough, no need once they are stopped.

Contact your legislative rep or senator and talk to them about it. That would be the first place to start.

I'm gonna do just that. Something has to be done.

On a similar note, I'm appalled at the high percentage of drivers who appear totally oblivious to the sirens & flashing lights of emergency vehicles. I drive on 7800 S and 9000 S. frequently and have had several bozos honk their horns in irritation at me when I slow down and pull over. Have had the same thing when I move over and slow down for flashing lights on the freeway. I usually just signal them that they are #1. What I'd really love to do is give them a good thumping but at 70 I'm not up to much of that.

There is a real problem there, Those people are too busy texting, and talking on phone to drive safe. We have the same problem in Wyo., but to a lesser degree(less drivers = less idiots)

We do have a slow down and move over law which means you must change lanes when approaching (if feasible) when approaching emergency vehicles. I don't know how troopers work the freeway, they get paid nothing and are always dealing with vehicles going 80 MPH. I know on the rare occasions when I make traffic stops on the freeway it scares the hell out of me!!!
