We got out for about an hour. The temp in the creek was 46 to 47 and it was windy. Fished just back of the house. Caught 7 crappie a brushpile. Started out casting a 1/2oz red rattletrap on the flat point out back of the house, just testing a new rod and reel that I broke down and bought at BPS on sale last time I was there. I had been casting and reeling, trying to bump some stumps like KVD in the classic. I know that there are a bunch of stumps out there but have never taken the time to find them. After the first 10 casts or so I noticed that my line tightened up just before it hit bottom, I set the hook but nothing was there. I cranked and let the trap fall a couple more times and wham, fish on. It ended up being a 4-5lb channel cat and it had spun and wrapped the line around it's self a few times by the time I got it in. Crazy fish. Most of the crappie on my pile are at about a 5 count just downstream of the top that is poking out above the water, mostly small ones but lots of them. No pic today.
