staying out all weekend
#1
Hey all, I am new to ice fishing. Me and some buddies are currently in the planning stages of camping and fishing on either the flaming gorge or bear like. I was curious what input others might have about spending multiple days on the ice.
I have a large tent, in which I was putting some though into converting to an ice fishing shelter. It is made out of canvas so its fairly heavy. My plan was to set it up using screw type stakes to anchor it to the ground.
Has anyone ever done anything like this? any advice on staying out for a weekend or more would be greatly appreciated.

you can use green wood branch forks for stakes.

drill holes place the stake in place, then put water in the hole and allow the ice to set, depending on how cold it is, they may only take 15 - 20 min

dont drill the hole all the way though, use half inch green wood forks with one fork cut to 1/2 inch in lenth When you leave you can chip out the stake cutting the fork off. You can prefab the stakes at home and thow them in an onion bag.

Be sure you have plenty of ventalation, dont keep the temps inside much higher than 65 degrees and put down a heavy visqueen under the tent so the bottom dose not freeze to the ground.

strip down to your skibbies when sleeping in your zerro or below rated sleeping bag. sleeping in your clothes will only make you cold all the next day.

Pack a change of clothes is plastic bags and duck tape the bags closed so they dont get wet.

You wil sweat in your undergarments so it is ecential you have dry clothes to crawl in to when you arise in the morning.

depending on the thickness of ice, those little popup tralors are great over night campers, they have heat, get you up off the ground and you can pull them out on the lake with a quad.
