line coloring
#1
i was going to be getting a new setup and wanted to know what the best line color to get would be, i usually just use clear but was wondering of red, moss green, a florescent color etc. would work better in water that ranges from reletivley clear to less than 2 feet of visibility

thanks and good luck fishing

I fish 100% fluorocarbon (clear, colorless) in clear water because it's about as close to invisible as you'll get.

In braid, I use Moss green, Camo, or Smoke. Braid is a lot more visible than the other line materials. Spiderwire Invisibraid and Fireline Crystal both claim to be semi-transparent but you'll notice that they stand out like bleached teeth on a black bear when you see them in the water. If you're fishing stained or cloudy water, the Moss green or camo is fine. Camo is kind of neat because it breaks up the solid color.

Choosing what you throw should be 100% determined by your situation. Obviously, if you're fishing a slow moving bait in clear water, you want to fish fluorocarbon or clear mono. If you're flipping weeds in cloudy water, braid will work just fine because the fish can't see around all the weeds and the water will hide the line a little better.

I'd add to this conversation that if you are doing alot of clear, deep fishing red loses it's visibility in the color spectrum more than any other color. If you are fishing mud bottom deep south type rivers you could probably fish with neon pink line and it wouldn't matter! lol But having said that lots of guys I know believe the red line gives them a distinct edge when trying to lure out those larger wiley lunkers. No personal experience to share on that here so if you do try it and it works post up and let us know!

Thanks,
BZ

For mono the best is the new Berkley Trline transoptic
very strong and very transparent. for braid transparentcy I would recommend going to Spiderwire ultracast invisible braid

I'll echo what was said earlier...use fluorocarbon. It's dang near invisible.

I do a lot of trout and bass fishing in both clear and stained water. I've used moss, clear, and red line. The only one that I truly thought that was decreasing my number of catches was the red line. Idk maybe its just all in my head.
