Harrisburg, PA - The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) has cancelled trout stocking for Section 3 of Turtle Creek in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties due to ongoing problems with pollution from a gasoline spill that occurred near Murrysville, Pa., in November 2008.
This 3.9 mile section of Turtle Creek from the Saunders Station Bridge downstream to the mouth of Brush Creek was scheduled to be stocked on April 14 and April 29.
Stream surveys conducted by the PFBC on February 11, March 19 and March 30 found that gasoline product remained in-stream and was still entering Turtle Creek from the spill site. On Nov. 25, 2008, an estimated 11,760 gallons of gasoline owned by Sunoco spilled, with an estimated 3,772 gallons recovered. The PFBC and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection are continuing their investigation of the incident.
