[indent]I'm not asking for anyones secret honey hole, just honest advice from experienced bow hunters. I'm sick and tired of the sea of orange and the crap that comes along with it. I have always been a `rifle hunter for mule deer, last year i drew and harvisted a 4X5 on Hrdscrabble CWMU. I would really like to hunt the uintas this year and am looking at 3 areas have heard about in the past. I'm looking at the area sourounding the Lyman lakes, China meadows or Whitney lake. I you could help me decide i will greatly appreciate it. I'm not looking absolitely stuck on a 350 class bull, however crazy things have happen to me before. I'm am hooked on harvesting a branch antler bull with a bow. I want to experience the thrill of the rut. I want a nasty, stinky, pissed of bull to scream in my face. I want to experience the thrill of being so involved in the hunt i lose track of everyting else but the hunt. I hope i'm am able to get the very most out of this hunt. I'm willig to hike my guts out and hire a packer if succesful. I wish i had the money and i'd hire a guide this year to learn from the best. If you can share any information i will be very grateful gar un teed. Thanks in advance. Todd

I hate to kill your enthusiasm, but if you want all the excitement of rutting elk you need to go outside of Utah. They reserve all that fun activity for the LE rifle hunters. Now I'm not saying you can't kill a bull in the Uintas with a bow, but if you are going in there expecting it to be like the Primos shows you will be very dissapointed.
You can pm me if you want and I can tell you where I have hunted in the past.

Well i can agree to an extent. I was ble to go up on North cache LE archery last and it was an incredible experience. I'm also on 5 year wait after the CWMU last year. so that being said i'm now in persuit of somewhere i can go that i can put in the work over the next "many " years and get into the elk. The LE system is going to take a while for me to draw that for sure. Have you hunted the Uintas with any success?

Sucess depends on your definition. Yes I have hunted the Uinta's since 1994, yes I have killed, and yes I had some opertunities that I chose not to take. So I have had sucess, BUT over the last 6 years the close calls and chances are getting alot harder to come by. In fact I am so disgusted with how it has been that I vowed to quit archery hunting in Utah until the DWR changes the dates back to were they should be. A few years back the hunt started later and ended closer to the peak of the rut... back when a bow hunter could get a decent chance at a bugling bull. Now I have bit the bullet and joined the pumpkin gang on the hill. At leat that way I can hear a bugle... even if it is at night.
You can still kill elk in the Uinta's if you can find them. Calling isn't very productive and there is alot of country for a few animals, and they are very good at hiding.

Last year was the first time I hunted for elk in UT. and I got into elk everyday. They were bugling all day long. I had such a great time watching the different herds big and small. I did not end up getting one but had a few chances, just didnt shoot because I was farther away than i wanted to shoot. I am hunting wyoming again this year but I will buy another tag for that area I was in last year just to sit and listen and watch. If I get one all the better...
