A small victory in my girlfriend's pond. I got a really god hit. I should take a few pics so anyone interested will know what I'm dealing with. I had a fish, it took my worm and started swimming, I just didn't set the hook strong enough. I was using a 7" blue fleck berkely power worm. So I think I have found where the bass have gone...The water level is really low, so the water has receded several feet, giving me a relatively dry bank to scale to gt about 25-30 yards from the pier we usually fish off of. This got me closer to where I was fishing. The pond is really muddy and murky, so should I get some soft plastics in that bright yellow color--chartreuse, is it? I also have a couple of minnow cankbaits...Will those work?

Congrats on the one that got away, I'm sure you are planning your revenge as I type! Fishing in dark, muddy water I use black, black/blue plastics with a rattle insert or lures that vibrate alot like a chatterbait or spinnerbait and use dark colors on them. In my own experience I use lighter colors on clear, sunny water and darker colors on murky, shadowed water. If you think about it, take pictures of the bottom structure when the water is low. This well help you when the water is high to determine what type of structure you are fishing.
This might sound like cheating (did this on my buddies pond back in the day) but when the water is low try adding some structure like stacked cinder blocks or trees, etc. so when the water rises the bass have structure to relate to so you know where they are and where to fish and most importantly don't break up with a girl that has a bass pond [cool].

Ahh, I had it backwards. I was thinking dark colors bright water...I have some 7" black power worms, I'll give those a shot next time. My minnow baits don't rattle or anything. I'll look into a chatter bait. I do have a black jitterbug, but I haven't tried it in the new area. the water is REALLY low...you can see the bottom for about 4 feet out. the only problem is the pier is nowhere close to that area, so I'd have no choice but to make some kind of structure closer to it...maybe we can clear out an area down on the deeper end to fish. Lookin for my next time to be monday or tuesday...I can taste those bass...
And worry not, I have no intention of losing her, not because she has a pond, but because she is the most amazing girl I've ever met. I'm gonna hang onto her forever...she does love fishing, so she's perfect [cool]

Perfect, it doesn't get better than that. She sounds like a keeper.

That she is.
As far as the fishing goes...I'm not sure the bass are real active right now, so I guess my best bet is to wait until spring.
