My new favorite section of BFT!

We'll guys, I've got the melting pot and have poured my first batch of pony heads. I'm going to be painting them over the next couple of days, and then on to the dressing for some. I'll post some pics and want some critiques from you more experienced tinkerers.

I've got an idea (still in the experimental stage) for a
[Wink]TOP SECRET[Wink] wiper jig.

Here are the basics:
1/8 and 1/4 for the casting and 3/8 for a trolling jig, the body painted white with silver or maybe some mix glitters, and a blue bar on the across the top of the head (also with the glitter). For the dressed jigs, I'll be using white marabou (possible some grey and blue) with silver and blue flash synthetics on the top (and maybe some straight silver synthetic on the bottom portion of the tie). Still Undecided if I'm going to paint the blades, but I'll probably do a couple and leave the rest nickel.

What color eye's do the gizzard shad have? I'm thinking some red and some black. What do you think TD?

I'll add some pics to this thread over the week as I get some work done on these, stay tuned and be ready to critique these for me!

[cool][#0000ff]Sounds like your terminal illness (jigitis) is well advanced. Oh well, might as well make the best of it.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I can tell you, after a lot of experimentation, that although blue is a good color (combined with chrome) for a hardbait, it does not seem to help much with jigs for casting or bottom bouncing. Plain white works just as well and is easier to make and fish.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]for the eyes, use chartreuse with a black dot. I use that color eye on most of my lures and it seems to outproduce most others. (see attached pics) Most prey species have eyes that look more like chartreuse with black pupils...especially shad.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]I use white and diamond dust glitter flakes over white paint on most of my white stuff. But, I also do a light "highlight" of fine silver or silver hologram on some. The extra bit of sparkle does improve appearance.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Whenever you are ready, come on down for some "advanced" painting and dressing sessions. Not sure when or if we will be having any other group things.[/#0000ff]

Right on TD, I've got a couple of heads in the painting process that I've taken a dark and light blue sharpie to for the top of the head. I didn't give them all a blue line, and it sounds like it's not really worth it.

I'm stalled at the moment because when I was at Sportman's last weekend I forgot to pick up the clear paint[mad]. Oh well, I need to get some more glitter as well. It seems like its taking forever to get all the supplies together, but all in due time huh?

I'll post a couple of pics for ya tonight when I get home from work, I had to charge the camera battery or I would have posted 'em last night.

[cool][#0000ff]It DOES take time to put together EVERYTHING you need. I have been working on my stash for decades and I still keep adding to it. Does that qualify as an addiction? Is there a 12 paint program for me?[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Hello, my name is TubeDude and I am a jigaholic.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]By the way, I just another PINT of the clear gloss jig paint and large sizes of both the "Disco Yellow", "White" and "Diamond Dust" glitters that I use the most for my glitter highlights. I'm ready for a full summer of lure making. Heck, I am probably ready for the next ten years.[/#0000ff]
