Bear Lake Report 10-27-07
#1
My Son and I fished Bear Lake today and we had a pretty good time. Launched at around 8am and headed right to the Rock Pile. There were about 6 or 8 boats already there when we arrived, including BearLakeFishGuy.
We started off jigging in about 43 ft of water, but no takers. Water temp was 51 Degrees a slight breeze but a good day. We weren't doing any good jigging so we decided to troll for a while, I stayed in the 45-50 ft range. I was getting ready to start a turn when Chris yelled at me to look at my fishing rod, at that point it was fish on. Great fighter and worth every bit of the wait, after almost 15 minutes we were able to get it to the boat and net it. To my surprise this Bull was 12lbs. Man this thing had a head on it like a Buick. We had to leave a little early as my son had a prior commitment , that mack was the only one we got all day . There were a few Macks caught in the area we were in, but most folks were moving around a lot.

[font "Comic Sans MS"][black][size 2]Dan,
Don't want to hijack your post, but I figured, why start another post on the same subject. I launched at 7:00am in the dark. Headed to the rockpile since I haven't fished it in over three weeks. To my surprise I was the first boat out there. One other boat load of anglers showed up about 10 minutes later who were jigging and I felt like asking them if the y wanted to fish out of my boat since they were so close! I didn't say anything, but I'm serious they were right on top of me! The rockpile is not that big, but c'mon give someone some breathing room. I can understand if there are several boats out there, but when I was the only one there and they pulled with 20 yards of me. I should have taken a picture, but I was too agitated at that point. Anyway, I jigged for about 1 hour with one hook up but never landed the fish. I saw quite a few fish porpoising so I wanted to try trolling. I ended up with 4 fish on the day which ended for me about 11:30am. It was a great day since my second fish was the largest fish I ever caught out of Bear Lake. It measured about 37-38" and weighed in at 21lbs. After landing that fish, I spent 15 minutes trying to revive it since it was having a hard time trying to get going again. It finally swam away and all was well. I also caught one other fish just over 13lbs, one about 9lbs and one about 8lbs. Weather was perfect....sun and no wind. For some reason, when I first got out to the rockpile, this little ruddy duck kept swimming around my boat all by his lonesome. Too bad the pic of him didn't come out very clear. It was a cute little duck.

My daughter and a cutthroat she caught on Friday at Cisco Beach.
Fishing was slow for me, but I had some friend that did well trolling
at Cisco Beach on Friday. They had 4 fish with the largest about 12lbs.

A 9lb laker, first fish of the day

This is the 21lb, 37" fish. Still swimming. My personal best
out of Bear Lake.

Dan, now that is a brute! If I had my choice of either catching a ton of small fish, or one monster...it would certainly be the latter.

There's one of them Macks with my name on it...come on Ice!
