C.J. Strike
#1
My wife and I fished C.J. on Thursday, and fishing was great. We caught trout, bass, crappie, and lots of nice-sized perch. You couldn't get your cut bait down to the bottom before you were getting action. We planned on going to the Cottonwood area, but never got past the point across from the Air Force ramp. The bite slowed down in the P.M. a bit, but was still good. When we arrived at 10, it was fast and furious. Trolled with lead core for the trout, and anchored for the rest. Huge schools came through about every 5 minutes. They would totally black out the depth locator!! Mike

Does C.J. Strike Freeze in the Winter?

Thanks

The shallow areas certainly do freeze over, and there is often good perch fishing through the ice. Much of the res. typically is ice free most or all of the winter. Trout fishing is starting to come into one of its two best phases, the fall fishing. Spring fishing can be great also.

Thanks for the info. Are there jumbo perch (anything over 10") in there?

The reason I ask is my family goes on a three day ice fishing trip every year to somewhere we have never been. I am trying to determine where we are going to go this year.

Thanks

We didn't find any. The larger fish were in the 10-11" range, with a few at 12". Mike

Any reports on those sturgeon that are in there?

Haven't heard a word. We drove by the dam today and there were only a couple of folks fishing for sturgeon. Usually it is packed. The fishing in general was off today. To make the situation worse, the wind was blowing so hard our anchor wouldn't hold, so we called it a day. Maybe that full moon was doing its thing!! For a current report, call the Fishin' Hole in Bruneau. Mike

I know The Fishin' Hole well. Nice guy who owns that place. Only problem is that he owns a bait/tackle shop and every time I have asked him how the fishing is he has reported that it is great! Difficult to get anything but "great" from many bait/tackle shop owners. BTW - how close do you live to C.J. Strike?

Boise. Well, no more fishing for me for a while. I am heading out the door to go see the fall colors in New England for the next few weeks. Good fishing!!
