I am looking into building my own walleye rigs this season. i am wanting to learn more about how to fish for them too. Is there a paticular blade that works better than others and where can I purchase the hooks, beads, line, blades etc to make these? Any info would help on construction and fishing for the eyes in general. thanks

[blue][size 2]Buy some Northland spinner rigs at Sportsman's and duplicate them. You can even buy a variety pack of Northland blades. Get some quick-change clevises, beads, floats, hooks and you're set. Pretty easy, and you'll save money.[/size][/blue]

Dennis made a good point with the quick change clevis. The beads stay the same but you can pop blades on and off real fast. One thing I liked about building my own was the length of the line between the hooks. I like to make mine longer so as to help out with short strikes. Plus you get to choose your hooks. I like to use the red gamagatsu hooks. I like to use a heavier pound line too. Flourocarbon is the way to go in my book. Lots oh the new stuff comes with the quick change for the blades and it probably wont save you any money by building your own, but thats ok. I have even taken purchased rigs, pulled them apart and kept the same design and pattern of the beads and blades, just changed out the hooks and added a little more distance between them. Its all just what you like to do.

What style of hooks are best to use? Octopus or no?

[cool] the octopus hooks will work fine. the best thing about making your own rigs is making diferant setups. like he said, making the line between the hooks a little longer is a good tip. for blade size, I like #4 colarado, for a bouble blade setup I like #3 colarado blades. as for color just try differant colors and let the fish tell you what they want on that day. I always start with hammered silver and go from there. later chuck
