WHY

[black]I have seen this more than I care to. Not just BFT but other forums I frequent.[/black]
[black]Okay, you get out to fish and you have what feels to you to be the best! So you are all pumped up and you wanna share it with others that are suppose to enjoy the same thing.[/black]
[black]Whether it be a fish, or a bunch of fish, tactics, size weight whatever, there always seems to be one or two people that just HAVE TO BURST YOUR BUBBLE![/black]
[black]I don't get it. I was taught if you have nothing nice to say, don't speak. I admit, I am old school, but can someone enlighten me on this.[/black]

Unfortunately, this seems to happen not just with fishing but most things in life if you know what I mean. I visit a couple discussion forums that deal with other than fishing topics and it happens there too.
A friend of mine said that it was a sign that we are aging and society has changed from what we are used to or taught. He said that the way I see and deal with things today is much different from "back in his day" and technology has opened up a huge network of new issues and problems.

First hand knowledge of this is when my kid turned 13............ LOL

I read your post, but I'm not sure what you're referring to specifically. Can you elucidate? Thanks...

[black]I have seen post on the Utah General with pictures of NICE fish, but a few, not a lot, get questioned about it. Not holding it right, not a real picture, etc.[/black]
[black][/black]
[black]A while back (and we are not going to rekindle) a well known, and respected guide at a popular lake up in Idaho, was questioned on his inavailability, and on his methods. Not to mention questioned on his abitlity and the size of fish.[/black]
[black][/black]
[black]All I am saying is, look, answer, ask questions, but BE NICE. There is no reason for negativity.[/black]

Wow, I guess I haven't seen those posts in reply. I'm glad I haven't, but probably will notice now that I'm aware of them. I did see the tail end of the ordeal with the ones who left the board. I agree, just be cool. This board has such a good vibe at times, it really sucks when people just feel compelled to come throw their turd in the punchbowl. I have been to other forums, mostly music forums hosted in europe, that really hold down those types of posts, and ban people immediately for infractions. But it would be nice to think ppl could just get along...

I read the Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming boards everyday. The Utah board contains the most of what Flygoddes is talking about. It is probably because it has the most people involved. The internet is a haven for this kind of stuff. You can say whatever you want, things you would never say face to face with someone you didn't know. You have to just ignore the bullcrap that goes on (especialy on the Utah board !!) and use the BFT boards for what they are. A great source of information. I have learned more about fishing Flaming Gorge by just reading posts than I ever could by going there blind. A few guys have PMed me with more stuff. I am more than willing to share any info I have. You can call me a liar, say I add pounds to my catch, I kill too many fish, I dont really give a crap!!!

I know exactly what post the fly goddess is talking about. And I couldn't agree more. The guide that was helping the rest of us out by posting in these free boards is a good man. He was sharing info that he makes money off of. Think about what you do for a living and would you be willing to do that for free just because you want to help others out? And if you are willing to do that, would you like to be criticized about it? I know I wouldn't. I feel bad about what happened, and like usual, the few ruin it for the many. It's Sad how many times that happens. If everybody would show the same amount of respect to others as they think they deserve, this would be a lot better place.

Good post. I would agree that if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all.
