HARVEST MOON: Tonight's full moon has a special
#1
HARVEST MOON: Tonight's full moon has a special name--the "Harvest Moon." It is the full moon closest to the northern autumnal equinox. Long ago, before electric lights, farmers relied on the Harvest Moon to light up their fields at night, allowing them to harvest autumn crops even after sunset.

The Harvest Moon of 2006 is a big one--almost 12% wider than some full Moons we've seen earlier this year. Why? Because the Moon is near perigee, the side of the Moon's lopsided orbit that comes closest to Earth.

When the Harvest Moon rises tonight, go outside and look around. You might see some strange things: full story at http://spaceweather.com .

The moon is playing heck with us bowhunters thou .
From what I have noticed , the deer are feeding at night with the youngsters venturing out early in the evening to get there licks in on any bait pile that can be found .
That's my way of saying I haven't seen any boneheads yet , just a bunch of antlerless coming in just before dark .
I had one baldey stay in front of me for a good half hour yesterday , two tonight , my score ,zip zero nadda since the opener .Where the heck is BullWinkle hiding ?
The next big doe or if some luck comes my way and some horns walk by me , it's going down , theres too much great fishing going on to pass up , I'm getting pretty impatient .
I'll be heading up to the Soo next weekend , doing a little walleye and whitefish while I'm up there . I still have to get a stergon on to call this year a sucess .
Sometime this week it's over to the Manistee and then back over to the Au Sable .
I have to get Roosterfish on the line , deercamp is about a month away .
You wouldn't belive the grouse hunting up my way , I haven't seen so many birds since I first started hunting !
I''de like to stick the game-cam out for a night but stateland thefts are hitting us hard up here .
A good sturdy lock and cable or chain is required if you want to have a stand to return to for the morning hunt .Sportsmanship sure is getting a black eye these days .
Whatever happened to simple common courtisy for your fellow outdoorsman ? Some have it , others couldn't care less one way or the other . I met some guys from the downriver area tonight and had a great time with them at the end of the hunt . We in a round about way , knew each others workplace and even had some the same friends . we traded hunting stories , tactics and guarinteed hotspots . I'll be taking them over to an area that I hunt regulary, I'm sure they will like it .
These are the kind of gentelmen I wish others could be like , heck, were already talking about doing some ice fishing together this winter .
Smallies are the hot fish in the area right now with crappies hitting a close second , gills are making there presence known quite well and not much in the way of perch fishing other than the upper west side of Houghton lake .
Lake 4 , pike fishing is a thrill a minute along the north shore coves and weedbed .
Ducks are seen further away from the lakes looking for ponds and puddles in any old farmfeild for a rest .
I'de guess the goose are doing well around here , I can hear calls and shots from my deerstand most all mornings that I have been out .
Tippys elbow to elbow on the weekends with only a slight decrease in fishermen during the weekdays, early A.M. runs seem to be doing the best for the fresh fish .The bad part about this is it makes for a long day at work with just two or three hours sleep .
It is worth it though.
Am I the only one that thinks us outdoor adventurers should get a holiday , say from september 15 thru april 14th ?
