UPDATED BY PAT ON FRIDAY, September
15th, 2006
STRIPED BASS- The bunker are still here and the early baits are still
getting the bass at Long Sand Shoal. The bunker are scattered and not
showing at all times, mid-day they can normally be found between the
bridges. They're also in Clinton Harbor, peanut bunker are running along
the entire shoreline. The bass are still on the night bite in the Race.
Schoolies are running along the Old Lyme beaches and a few in Fenwood
area. The fall run has started at Montauk with schoolies on the surface
on the Southside.
BLUEFISH- The mouth of the Connecticut River has a load of blues
harassing the bunkers. The anglers on both DEP piers and Saybrook Point are
doing as well as we've seen on chunks, either shad or bunker, and fresh
is best. They've been hitting the Old Saybrook Town Beach most days.
The Race and Plum Gut are very good and they can be found on top with
some consistency on the west end of the Sluiceway.
SNAPPER BLUES- It ain't over. They're still running good around most
estuaries and the Causeway.
FLUKE- We heard of a few at Hatchetts this week but not too many other
reports other than having fluke mixed in sea bass. The season is closed
in NY.
PORGIES- They're off to a good fall run with both size and numbers.
Good reports have come from Hatchetts, Bartletts and Southwest Reefs.
BLACKFISH- The season is closed until 9/21. It opens next Friday
September 22nd.
FALSE ALBACORE- They're in pretty good at the Sluiceway, Watch Hill and
Montauk. Sizes are also running a bit larger than previous years. They
should also be in the Race but we haven't had any reports yet.
BLUE CRABS- They're still running good with decent reports from the
Oyster, Lieutenant River and North and South Coves
HOURS- The sun is rising later and so are we. Monday -Friday 6am
to 7pm
Saturday 5am to 6pm
