Ist time for kokanee, 1st time to fish Anderson ranch
#1
I asked last week about using a kickboat/elct. trolling motor, to troll for kokanee at Anderson Ranch and I am trying to set-up to go. I have some pop gear, green snubbers, orange and silver koke killer lures and some new line on my reels.

I haven't found the shoe peg corn or made up the batch, but it is on my list!

Any suggestions on where when and any other rigging I should have or get would be appreciated.

idahopanfish: I was fishing for Kokanee last Sunday and there were a lot right in Lime Creek. With your kick boat and electric motor you could put in right after you cross the bridge at Lime Creek, you can't miss the campers. If you have a GPS set your speed at 1.5 mph that seemed to be what they wanted. If you have leaded line fish it but only out 2-4 colors. If you don't have leaded line and no downriggers get your self some of those snap on weights that are put out by North Shore Tackle. They come in a plastic box with different size weights. I would start out with a Double Whammey red beads and silver blade to a rubber snubber to a Bolo with the Hallo Graphic blades and of course "Shoe Peg Corn" with red food coloring and anise or shrimp attractant. If your fishing mono let out about 20 feet of line then place a snap weight on. I would start out with a 1/2 oz. then go bigger from there. Then run this rig out 75-100 feet and start trolling. This set up trolled 1.5 mph produced very well last Sunday. I alo caught them on Apex #1 lures in orange, red, and green. There was also a lot of fish out at the mouth of Lime Creek. I found the Shoe Peg corn at Albertson here in Hailey. Good Luck to ya and let us know how ya did.[cool]

My cuz said last weekend you could actually see the Kokes cruising several feet down near his boat in Lime Creek. He thought that you could probably vertical jig for them as his graph showed fish at all depths. I think a couple small jigs tied 18 inches apart on your line and pegged with corn would most likely work. Friends of mine here in Utah vertical jig for them in several lakes here when they find a school and do quite well. I think I would stick with red for a color as that seems to be working well. Let me know how you do. I know My cuz from Mt. Home was headed back up this weekend and was going to try vertical jigging for them.[cool]

Another note, I found the Green Giant shoe peg corn, food coloring and Mike's scent at the Wal-Mart store in Jerome when we went up there for the 4th.[Tongue]

Hey thanks for the help guys!

I didn't make it up there this last weekend as I had hoped, but I did find the corn at both Fred Meyers & Winco. So I did get the bait made.

I was reading that someone use both a salmon egg and the corn, just wondering what you think on that.

Boy, this heat is just knocking me down. Just can't get any ambition going after noon.

I hope the kokanee keep biting even as it warms up. Do they just go deeper? I got a line counter for the rod and just need to find some of those snap-on weights, they seem like they would be very handy.

Thanks again
