The easiest way to catch fish at Trial or for that matter any of the Uintah lakes is just put a casting bobber (filled about 3/4) above a swivel then add a yellow pistol pete with about 3 feet of leader.
Just have them cast out a do a slow retreive. It keeps the kids busy so they do get board and they will generally get something every few minutes.

You can pick them up at Wal-Mart. They are a fly that resembles a bee, but they have a small stainless steel propeller on the front (the yellow ones seam to work the best). My five year old was hooking up at Trial within 5 minutes.
If you get up to Trail early enough theres one really nice camp spot right down by the lake.
Good luck

Thanks for the help, I will look for the campsite and will go pick up some of those flys. I have honestly never seen one of those and I am always excited to buy new stuff.

The fly and bubble works well. Also have done really well with Jakes spin a lures. Both Gold and Silver. They look kind of like a domino but I do well with those at Trial. Powerbait off the bottom, or worm under a bobber also work. Walk around to the other side where water comes into the lake or where the river goes out and you will have no trouble.

Don't forget - if you do use Powerbait, you may get the fish to swallow the hook and you'll have trouble with the fish surviving all that, trying to remove the hook. Good luck and have fun!

I have quite a few different Jake's. Do you use the full sized spin a lures or the lil' jakes?

I have actually used both sizes. Would probably use the smaller one at first. Sometimes I like the bigger one because I can cast it a mile. But either will work

[red]I'd say stop and take pictures at Wall Lake and then head over to Washington Lake with the fishing poles. [/red]

[red]I'm thinking it is less than a mile. There is a trail head that leaves from the Washington Lake area that sidetracks over to Wall Lake and the Notch trail. [/red]

Hiya trollboy8! My inlaws are campground hosts up there at trial, So make sure to talk to the host when you get there, he could help you out with trails and good camp spot. Also prob tell you what other people have been catching trout on. I tried Lil jakes and had good results. And they just stock trial last thurs july 6th. Good fishing. And tell em Jeremey and Laura says "hi".
