Oh Henry!

[font "Comic Sans MS"][Image: purple.gif][size 3]Made it up to Henry's Lake last Wed. and "Mother Nature" was being a real B$%#*tch! I manage to net one cutt 27"X25" in the less than hour we toughed it out. It got a little scary with the wind blowing me further out and the sky lighting up. When I tried to put my left oar in the water, the waves had me airbourne. I ended up having to forward stroke my right and backstroke my left. My camera isn't waterproof and it was pouring, so, no picture of the hog, plus it was get the hook out, release, and row like crazy. My ol' man does have a waterproof camera and he got these shots after we managed to get loaded up in the monsoon! NEAT! another story for the books.[Smile][/size][/font]

LOL, I have done that many a day on a john boat.... nothing like being a lightning rod out on a lake...

we just had a few days like that in a row here in mittingan. steady down pours lasting for several hours on end. my area missed the fire works but north and south of me sure got a good show...

I was on the water on monday when the first bout set in, I was about a mile out in a row boat when I saw a flash and then heard the grumblies of the rumblies....

I did manage to pull in one 14 inch LMB and one 10 inch gill before getting run off the water.....

I don't know about you DaveT, but lately we here in the north have had to get use to fishing in the rain. Now that the rain has warmed up some it's almost pleasant.[crazy] No one is on the lake to bother the fishermen and women.

I love to hunt and fish in the rain, its the little flashy things that preceed the rummblies that bother me...

I am not to fond of those heavy down pours that fill my little 12 foot row boat in a couple hours, (no bilge pump) it reminds me of forest gump when he said some times the rain comes up form the bottom....[angelic]

Dave, now FG is up at Falcons Ledge till Thursday, I've been asked to step in and keep things in line. (Right- this is coming from a guy that gets banned from EF A Oh ELL for no good reason. Not that I enjoy a boring fishing forum..... )
Anyway, it wasn't the rain so much, but the 30+mph winds that accompanied it. The lake is only 28' at the deepest so the waves tend to get vicious. Horizontal rain + 2'waves + 30 mph wind = motor on 5, rowing like a Viking whose captain wants to go water skiing, and the wind blowing from the west and we have to beach to the west, and is not as much fun as I thought it would be.[Tongue][Tongue][Tongue]

yap, me too, I am not much of a fan of wind and rain combos.

here in the great lakes regeon we can see waves up to twelve feet... They can flood a normal personal fishing boat in a matter of a split second. just a couple years ago a small 3 foot caped wave drove the nose of a 16 footer down killing a couple of its passengers on the detroit river... It came up so fast no one saw it coming or had time to react..

this was on a sunny day with fifteen mile an hour winds.

a sudden down draft can pop up a wave of dier conciquences... always better to side with caution than taking chances... My days of more brawn than brain are just about over....[Wink]

[font "Poor Richard"][green][size 3]Looks like the fishing Gods are a little PO with the fishermen. Was invited by friends to spend several days at their cabin in the mountains. Planned on doing a little fishing and some golf. The weather was the worse that they could remember. High 90sÂș and the same for the humidity plus wind. Not good weather for FFing. Couldn't wade or tube in the lake otherwise I would have been tubing in a bathing suit. Oh well due for better luck next month. Did play some golf. In 15 minutes my clothes were drenched. I had enough of that crappy type of weather when I lived in Florida.[/size][/green][/font]
