[purple]Not trying to justify or encourage, but do you think smoking changes your catch rate?[/purple]
[purple]I am sorry to admit, I smoke. I smoke while I tie, driving to the water, on my boats, but not on the rivers (no place to put my butts). I have no problem at all catching fish.[/purple]
[purple]My husband quit several years ago and he doesn't seen to catch as many fish as he use too. I have tried tying flies on for him and he does catch.[/purple]
[purple]Not trying to talk anyone into smoking, cause lord knows I AM GOING TO QUIT! (If my catch rate goes down, I will try chew[Wink])[/purple]

I have read where the opposite is true. The smell of smoke will drive fish away, but I think they were referencing bait fishing.

If you are seriously considering quiting, checkout www.utah.quitnet.com
I am working on month 2 as an ex-smoker.

Interesting concept. I've quit more times than I can count. But have caught fish and got skunked doing both. [ but I have been known to cheat when fishing.]

I put smoking in the same excuse book as full moon, high pressure and storm fronts.
We need a good reason for not catching fish.
So what are some other good ones?
I like using the excuse that I have a gas smell on my hands after I drill holes in the ice with my auger.

[cool][green]Hey I smoke cigars. Don't know about the fish but it keeps the gnats away. But for sure I am not inclined to smoke while tubing.[/green]

That would be strange if it really affected it. Maybe the hubby just isn't catching because he is SHAKKKKKKING TOO MUCH from withdrawals?!?

JK

I quite seven years ago and can't say it changed anything except my ability to breathe.

Give quitting a go. It was one of the best things I ever did for myself.

an ocational cigar and more often pipe. "note I have been smoking on the same bag of tobaco for seven years"

do I do it when I am fishing, by no means, do I do it while tying my flies and luren, nope. I used to years ago when we were using a lesser quality mono to melt the end to form a non slip knot. a burning cigerette or cigar was the only to do it back 35 years ago. with the new mono it is no longer nessisary.

as of late, nope, dont smoke while fishing, dont smoke while fixing my grear. altho' I might take up the pipe when I get down home fishing on the river bank for big cats. I gotta have something to cover up the smell of my bear feet. I will never have to buy a worm. just kick off my boots and get my bare feet in the mud and those worms will jump right up out of the ground...[Tongue] Dont worry, I will keep them out of the river...[laugh]

I do how ever put my hook in my mouth when I am making my lures. I think that makes a differance.
