[font "Comic Sans MS"][#ff4040]Hey guys, I was just wondering what flies I should stock up in my box. I am a newbie to this fly flinging game and was just wondering which flies I should always have with me. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

James, how and when do you fish with an ant?
I have had very little success using an ant or beetle pattern. Do you tie an ant with some white on top,[u] so that you can see it? The few times that I have caught a trout on an ant, I was using it as a dropper behind a Wulff or other attractor. That is the only way that I can see an ant on the water. Also how big should the ant be? On the Green, I hear of great success using a Chernoble ant. Sounds big to me!

Nymphs:
Hares ear 14-20's
Pheasant Tail 16-20's
Sow bugs (I prefer with a red head) 14-18's
Zebra midges 18-22's red, camel, olive, black
WD-40 18-22's red, black, olive
Copper johns
Brassies
Peeking caddis
Chamoix Caddis 14, 16's
****for variation, get some nymphs with bead heads.
Dries:
Adams 12-20's
Parachute Adams 14-20's
Elk Hair Caddis 14-18's tan, yellow, olive
X Caddis 14-18's tan, olive
Thorax PMD 16-20's
BWO dries 16-20's
Renegades
Stimulators yellow, olive
Daves hopper
Humpies yellow, red, green
**** when not matching a particular hatch, and depending on time of year, adams, humpies, E.H. caddis, and hoppers make great searching or 'attractor' flies.
good luck.

I use a parachute ant a lot, not only are ants the first terrestial out,but I also think they imitate a midge cluster in the winter. with the parachute on it, it is not hard to see. I just fish it alone as any dry.
