Bear Lake
#1
Fished Bear Lake this afternoon just south of Gus's point in 35 or so ft of water. Kept moving around but couldn't get on the fish. Several hits but only pulled in one Cut. I would have liked to get out to deeper water but was more than a little skeptical of going out past the "snow" line. I didn't use small enough bait to draw the attention of the White fish. If I still don't feel good about heading out further this weekend, I think I'll rig up for the Whites.

It looked like all other fisher folk were clumped up over the rock pile. Maybe that was the place to catch fish, but I'd rather not join a crowd that big. It's not relaxing for this country boy.

What was the ice thickness where you were? Did you have electronics and see any whitefish crusing thru?

I am after them there buggers this weekend, got a dying taste bud for some.

Thanks for the up to date info.

I just read a report from BearLakeFishGuy on the Utah board, where he said the ice was 7" on the rock pile. Other reports have said that there is still some open water on the east side of the lake. The temp was at 40 degrees yesterday and if they get any wind it could brake thing up fast.

Joyride, thanks for the report. Sorry you didn't find more fish.

Ice was 5 to 7 inches. Unfortunately I had no electronics with me so don't know what fish might have been down there. My friend hooked up with a good fish that had lots of fight but lost him about four feet from the ice.

It was a nice afternoon to fish. The folks on the Rock Pile were evacuating around 4:00, so I don't know if they were doing any good.
