Premier Trip 7/20 Barracuda and Sandbass
#1
Hey there guys,

Rode the Premier today. Danny at the helm with Mikie and another good deckie. Good chovies, sardines, and a little brown bait! heh heh heh Load about 50 anglers or so.

Excellent AM barracuda action then PM sandbass hook-a-thon. Hit some spots close for a no-go early then wemt down to fish the cuda around the Huntington Flats.

Overcast early AM but got HOT fairly quick. Water in nice. Temperature must be going up with the hotter days. Current was typical be less in the morning and stronger in the afternoon.

It was quality barracuda fishing with few shorts ranging from 5 to 7 pounds were coming over the rail at a good clip .... sometimes with flurries of 2 or 3 fish on at a time. Just about anything thrown out got bit. I threw nothing but plastics all day. They didn't seem to be line shy as I used 20lb test Izor Platinum and a 25lb test fluro leader. I donated a lot of swimbaits to get my share of the cuda hits. ha ha

Didn't move much for the barracuda bite! Sealions chased us off a couple of a good set but that's how it goes! I guess we could have passed them off to someone else but the skipper didn't do it! ha ha ha

After loading up (by no means limits for everyone) we moved up the line for the afternoon sandbass bite, found a good spot and sat on the marks, moving only once or so the rest of the trip.

First part of sandbass bite was the normal nice 2-3 pounders then later in the day, big, big, big sandies were coming over the rail constantly! 5 and 6 pound fish were common! Guys reaching their limit were regretting they had to keep their 2 or 3 pound fish !! Poor guys ..... ya right! ha ha

Added later: The sandbass plastics bite took quite a while to get going. Kinda frustrating seeing others get bit on bait but I changed colors often and stuck it out to finally end up getting bit wide open on the plastic in the last hour or two.

Lots of people got limits that wanted them and others, like me, were just happy to have the non-stop action. We got back to Pierpoint landing around 6:30. Huge sandbass taken today in the sandbass department! Still....... Barracuda won the jackpot......barely!!

Great boat, crew, and fishing with my old and new fishing buddies. Had a number of fishing website message board guys on board too !
