BURNING QUESTION....PISTOL PETE LURE.????

WHILST IN DENVER A YEAR OR SO AGO AT THE OUTDOORS EXPO, I RAN ACROSS A LITTLE LURE NAMED A PISTOL PETE. IT LOOKS LIKE A RENEGADE TYPE FLY WITH A SMALL PROPELLER IN FRONT BETWEEN THE HOOKEYE AND THE MATERIAL OF THE FLY. HAS ANYONE SEEN, HEARD ABOUT, OR FOUND THESE IN UTAH???? I HAVE NOT FOUND A SOURCE ON THEM AND I USED UP THE TWO I HAD FROM DENVER, IF ALL ELSE FAILS SOMEONE IN DENVER CAN SEND EM TO ME. IF THAT HAPPENS I WILL NEED A CASE. HA HA HA, FYI.....THEY ARE BONAFIDE TROUT SLAYERS AND I WANT TO TRY EM ON WALLEYES AND BASS AND PERCH AND EVERYTHING ELSE WITH FINS ON IT. SUPPOSEDLY THEY WORK ON ANYTHING IN WATER, ACORDING TO MY FREINDS IN DENVER. THEY HAVE BEEN KILLING WALLY WITH THEM THIS YEAR SO THEY SAY......AND THEY HAD PHOTO PROOF. SO I NEED SOME MORE. ANY HOW....ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Anyone who ties flies can make them easily, by simply tying in a short length of fine wire leader or even heavy monofilament prior to wrapping the fly. You then use a small propeller spinner, available cheap through Janns Netcraft and other tackle suppliers. A small bead between the spinner and the hook serves as a bearing to make the spinner work more freely.

You can tie up your own Pistol Petes on any kind of fly. I have made variations on wooly buggers, wooly worms and a host of streamer patterns. I also use both small "in-line" blades and hammered brass or nickle Indiana or Colorado Blades. I have been making both weighted and unweighted "bait spinners" and fly spinners for many years. They really do call in the fish sometimes when they need some waking up.

As per the suggestions of fellow tanglers on this site, and on UFF, you could search some of the local outlets for what you want, before "ordering out".

Also, as per our personal correspondence, I will be whipping some out on my trusty bench this weekend for your review and approval.
