Crappie Length Limits Lifted During April at Wehrspann, Zorinsky Lakes
#1
Lincoln, Neb. –– Crappie length limits have been lifted at two popular Omaha- area lakes during April in the hopes of helping to control crappie numbers, according to Keith Hurley, a Nebraska Game and Parks Commission biologist.
Hurley said the normal 10-inch length limit on crappie is not in effect at Wehrspann and Zorinsky lakes during April, the 10-fish daily bag limit remains in effect year-round.
"Anglers are having good success catching crappies averaging about 9-inches on minnow/jig combinations at both lakes," Hurley said.
On May 1 the normal 10-inch length limit on crappies will again be in effect at both lakes.
The fisheries division staff will conduct a creel survey to monitor angler success during April, and then this fall the fish population will be surveyed to allow biologists to continue to assess the impact of this regulation on the crappie population as well as the overall condition of the fishery.
