Have any of you flyfisherman been out lately? How does the south fork look? I was thinking about going up to causey and fishing right below the dam. What about the upper ogden or weber? Anyone tried the black smiths fork river?
I got some new waders that are beggin to get wet.
Thanks.

Hey ictchys, when are you going flyin for wipers. I'm planning up going up after work thursday or friday. Most likely have 2 guys with me hucking junk at them off my bass boat. It will be my first time chasing them with the fly rod. Do you use 5,6, or 7 weight? What about line? Floating, sinking, intermediate? I think I've got the perfect bugs for em.
Send me a pm if you don't want it on here. Thanks for any help.

I plan to have my fly rod on the North West side of the bay on Friday. I may even take my tube. I will have my radio on 12-0. What flies do you think will work besides a woolly bugger or a zonker? I will be using a full sinking line on a 9'-6wt rod. Thanks for the help, Dale.

Travis,
Follow up with icthys. We went to Willard on Sunday afternoon (I had never fished it with a fly rod before) and my fishin buddy caught the "attached" wiper on his 5 wt. I hooked two and both broke off. I'm a convert! As soon as this rain quits I'll be there in my 'toon!

I checked out the Black Smith the other day and it is high and muddy, it may be a while before it fishable.

I like to fish a heavier fly rod when I am fishing for the wipers. Last week I used an 8 weight and loved it. If I could choose I would go with a 9' 7 weight. It is nice to have a little backbone on your rod when you are throwing big flies and doing it for a long period of time. I was using a type 2 sink and I throw a failrly short and stout leader. I have lost too many of those guys up there. I usually taper it down to 2x (10 lb test). Hope this helps, Jake

OK never mind the question on the rivers. I drove past the ogden and weber last night. WOW!! there is alot of brown water in there. They won't be fishable for a while. I guess I'll try some lakes for now.

Don't totally give up on fly fishing the rivers. Southfork is ok between the dam and beaver creek,Middle weber is a little high but not muddy,Middle and lower provo is still ok. How long all this lasts I don't know.

What type of flys do you throw? How do you present them, stripping, drifting, etc. Thanks
