[#000080] Hello Everyone,
[/#000080]
It's August and we're well into "tuna time," as the adult Kings
start staging of the river mouths of the Great Lakes.
[#ff0000]Special Deep Water Warning for Salmon![/#ff0000] By now it's no big secret August 2004 has been one of the windiest
in recent memory. Lot's of wind from the southwest has driven the
Kings to depths of 140 feet and deeper. More SW wind at 15 to 25
knots is predicted for the next couple of days too. Look to the deeper
water for best action and don't be afraid of working the 300 to 400
foot depths off Manistee, Ludington and Frankfort. The depth of this
water is found pretty close to shore, when all things are considered. [#ff0000]Lk. Michigan & Lake Huron Report [/#ff0000]
Central to Northern Lake Michigan is showing limit catch action when the wind
lays down and anglers can fish Lake Michigan in at least semi-comfortable conditions.
In my area, Ludington's "Bath-House" to four miles north of Big Point Sable has
been best. Good reports are coming from Frankfort's Big Point Betsie along with
the Herring hole. Manistee is reporting excellent fishing as of lately, only the fishery
in Manistee has been extremely deep. I know of a few charter skippers that have
taken Salmon as deep as 180 feet on their rigger counters on 8/24/04 off Manistee.
It was reported to me in good faith that my flashers and cut-bait rigs is what took
those deep, unfathomable fish.
Be aware a bunch of warm water is piled up and down our coast of Lk. MI,
so look to the deeper water and be willing to fish at and below depths of
at least a 100 feet.
I still haven't heard many encouraging words about Lake Huron's Salmon
Fishery yet. Salmon have been scarce and Kings over 10 pounds are rare.
Crowds have been beyond immense, because the "Sunrise Side" is
experiencing an off season and this pressure has been shifted too LK. MI. [#ff0000]Capt. John's "On-Line Reel-Flashers"[/#ff0000]

Capt. Steve "Roscoe" Burns just won a the Flint Steelheaders tournament in
Manistee on 8/14/04), by pulling only my flashers and cut-bait rigs.
There was well over 40 boats in this event. His 10 fish winning weight total
was a heavy 145 pounds, plus he had his tourney winners in the box and
back in the harbor by 11:30am!
In the past week, or so.....the new "King Kobra" has been in very high demand.
In fact, keeping them is stock has been impossible. I know this color combination
is winner, because the same people are back buying multiples of this selection.
Zajac's in Manistee has an excellent array of my Reel-Flashers in stock.
Call and ask for Dave at (231) 723-5750 if you need my flashers, or cut-bait.
Rather then me tooting my own horn about Reel-Flashers use the below link: Click here for reel-testimonials & Reel-Flasher catch photos
Please keep in mind, my flashers is totally 1000% American made. All tape,
rivets, swivels (Sampo & Roscoe) and the blade is cast in the good old USA too!
I do not, or ever will believe in foreign outsourcing, when America needs our jobs.
Capt. Bob Hicks is in charge and running the entire show at our webstore.
He's done a fantastic job and has an inventory of hard to find fish catchin' tools.
Most shipping is done on the same of day the order is received.
Michigan residents can receive their tackle, electronics, rods, flashers,
cut-bait rigs, reels and specialty items within one business day.
With as deep as the Salmon have been you might want to consider ordering
some of the new Magnum Dipsey Divers. The last I knew Bob had less then
a 100 left.
Also, Bob has recently restocked his webstore with new colors
of Tie Cut-Bait Rigs. [#ff0000]That's All Folks! [/#ff0000] It's "World Series" time for Salmon fish, as last last part of August means
returning adult Kings at and over 20 some pounds. Lake Michigan's King
fishery is excellent, although at the cost of no Lake trout, no Browns and
a skinny population of Steelhead. Be prepared for long lines at the boat ramps
and be sure to bring a healthy dose of patience with you, when coming to the
popular ports that show traditionally great Salmon catching. It's gonna be crowed! Calm Seas, Bent Rods, Smooth Drags
and Extremely Heavy Fish Boxes,
