Help on selecting tackle for my boat!
#1
Bought a 20' Grady White Walk Around - Intend to do mostly family fishing in the Rappahannock River (Chesapeake Bay VA) and the inshore and near offshore waters around Emerald Isle NC. Would like to set the boat up for a variety of all around saltwater fishing. Your advice on rods/reels/tackle to have on board is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the BFT message boards. You picked a nice place to go fishing. I've only been there 6 times but it is nice. It's a good time for flounders out there as well as good stripers.

There are enless possibilities and opinions on what to use for tackle and gear. Try checking out one of our sponsors. Tackledirect.com They have a good selection of gear to get you started. There is usually a link on the page somewhere here. Just find it and click it. Look around and then you can ask opinions on what you would like to try.

Hey there HokieJeff,

Welcome to BFT!

TubeN2 hit the nail on the head (as usual) in that I would not buy a single fishing related thing for the boat until I sat down and make a list. I read an article on choosing a boat.

Make two columns. One column will have how you like to fish, with what, for what species, etc. and the other column has what you don't like and more important, what you can't have, do, etc.

Put the list away for a week then look at it again. If it's still valid use it as a guideline when talking to fellow anglers/boat owners.

Good luck and welcome to BFT.

MY BOAT is a 90 ft 25 ft beam twin engine machine of which I pay about $100 a week (deep in season) to maintain. Of course, there is a crew of three and live bait at my disposal too!

Hi there Dryrod,

As you know, my real ride on the water is a float tube. After you floated on your tube, you won't ever want a really big boat again.
