Pete Gill of the Nevada Division of State Parks said the fishing has fair to good since a rainbow trout plant that took place three weeks ago.

The fish appear to be willing to take bait, but they have been biting very gently, making it difficult for anglers to set their hooks.

PowerBait continues to be the favored bait for catching the fish. Live worms, spinners and flies will take the fish as well.

Temperatures have been getting warmer, although evenings have been in the mid to high 20s. Daytime temperatures have been in the high 50s to low 60s.

[#990033]ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR[/#990033]
The lake was stocked with rainbow trout last week and fishing has been good for the planters.
Anglers have been reporting to the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) that fishing appears to have dropped off during the past week and very few fish have been caught in recent days.

There were reports that striped bass moved into Blackbird Point in the Boulder Basin late last week and boaters were having some success for the fish, which were slightly over a pound. Otherwise, there have been few encouraging reports that have come from anglers in the Boulder Basin.

Boaters who have been fishing in the Overton Arm have been fairing poorly as they have caught very few fish during the past week. NDOW creel census clerks checked boaters over the weekend and the only fish they saw were a few striped bass that were caught north of Stewart’s Point and some largemouth bass that came from St. Thomas.

The largemouth bass spawn has gotten underway and Jim Heinrich, NDOW biologist, said he will be closely monitoring its progress this year. He said spawning success has been poor over the past few years due to the dropping water level. This has left little escape cover for young fish.
Fishing was slow over the weekend at both Cottonwood Cove and
Willow Beach. Windy weather was a problem and kept boaters off the water.

A few striped bass have been caught recently in the narrows above Cottonwood and at Owl’s Point by boaters who have been trolling with anchovies. The fish have been small with many weighing under a pound.

Dan Maes, Area Assistant Manager, said that anglers experienced better success than the previous week. Anglers landed rainbow trout that ranged from 12 – 15 inches, and in most cases, caught their limit of 5 trout.

Nighttime temperatures were in the high 20s while the daytime temperatures reached the high 50s.
[#990033]WHITE PINE COUNTY RESERVOIRS[/#990033]
Cave Lake, Comins Lake and Illipah Reservoir are now free of ice and the trout fishing has been fairly good at all of the lakes, according to Chris Crookshanks, NDOW biologist.

Rainbow trout that weigh 3 to 4 pounds are being caught at Comins, which is
located approximately seven miles south of Ely adjacent to U.S. 93. Illipah, located west of Ely, has had good fishing for rainbow trout that were stocked last year. NDOW will stock the three lakes with rainbow trout within two weeks.

Trout fishing has been sporadic at ponds at Floyd Lamb State Park, Lorenzi Park and Sunset Park in Las Vegas and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City. A few fish are being caught early mornings and late afternoons. The parks will be stocked with channel catfish next week, although the specific day has not yet been determined.
