What you need is a small red and white bobber. After you find your depth where you would like to fish mark you line or just remember how many reels from the bottom etc... Then at water level in your hole, make a loop in your line. Attach just one end of the bobber to the looped portion of your line. You will then be able to see the strikes but as the fish or yourself pulls on the line hard enough the loop slips out of the bobber and you it falls free. Hope this helps. Make sure to attatch only on end of the bobber to your line.

there is another trick i know of, that cosists of a tiny bobber barely big enought o keep afloat. find your depth, then tie a knot that slide with a different line. if you get a bite the bobber will drop. it is important to get the smallest size bobber as possible.

It wasn't blatantly disregarded, it has just been talked about before so it wasn't spelled out. Like has already been said, get your hook to where you want to fish, make a loop in your line at the water level, and put both pieces of line from the loop under one of the wires on one end of a bobber. Make sure when you pull on the line the loop will pull cleanly out of the bobber. I have had a couple of times when one side of the loop will get under the bobber wire and the bobber stays on the line. It helps if you use a bobber that the wires are bent all the way around instead of just a 90 degree angle. If you need more info let me know. The first times I read about it I didn't understand the explanations and I don't know if I did a much better job. Also, make sure the size of bobber you are using is the smallest possible to keep the bobber afloat with the size of jig or whatever you are fishing with. A bigger bobber loses some sensitivity in the water but still works.
