Watched Gary Winterton's Hooked on Utah show saturday night, He was fishing deer creek reservoir. Was using 4 different lines trolling for bows. Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the proclamation only allow for two poles per angler? Special rules for special people?

I noticed that too. Then it occurred to me that someone else was running the boat and/or shooting the video.
Gary does a lot of wacko things...and his narration drives me wacko...but I doubt he would knowingly violate a regulation on TV.

I haven't watched the episode, but even if there are two or more folks on a boat, one can still only legally fish with two rods.

Two poles per licensed person on the boat.

That was my understanding also. He had a "triple" and reeled in all three fish.

He is “famous” for doings things that are not proper or even legal and then airing it. On episodes on hunting and fishing. As mentioned if another person in the boat photographer if he had a license he could have 2 rods out, but one guy should not be handling all four for sure!
I didn’t realize that show was still around? Was it an old episode or is it still airing.

I remember when he trolled Minersville and did well using bait. After realizing he had used bait, on an artificial-only body of water, he turned himself in and was ticketed. In his next episode he explained what he had done and encouraged others to self-report infractions. A better approach, in my opinion, would be to recommend that people read the Guidebook, before fishing new waters, so that they don't violate the laws in the first place.

Kent,
Great point . Sadly I know of at least 3 violations he has aired, as well as some scenes which were not very good regarding gun safety to say the least. As the host and person in charge,
It is incumbent of him to know the rules and obey them. I guessing he self reported because he got flack from people that saw what he aired. It’s good that he owned his mistake.

Awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome he must say this 100 times a show. Like TubeDude stated 'his narration drives me crazy too'. I stopped watching him for the most part and if I occasionally watch I use the mute button. When Adam Eakle airs a show, it seems he does the same thing about 2 weeks later.. AWESOME!

(03-16-2025, 04:19 PM)I watched that last evening also and was thinking the same thing. At the end, however, it did appear that he was talking to someone else, so he technically may have been "legal". Nevertheless, someone watching that who is not well versed in the regs could very easily get the wrong idea and go out and think fishing 4 rods with 1 person is legal and get cited. That one was classic. He was too busy ranting about "chunky monkeys" and "how cool is that" to read the regs and committed a notable violation for all to see. I thought his mea culpa the following week was minimal at best.

DuBob once took me trolling primarily so he could run four rods. But I was to handle anything caught on "mine." He and I are both sticklers of the rules.

GW's talent for infractions is well documented and just one of the many reasons I haven't watched his show in years. It's unbelievable to me that KUTV management hasn't canceled his show.

I for one will miss your reports. I really hope that you kept enough gear to fish out of other members boats. You are certainly welcome to fish with me in my boat any time and I will extend invites. You have without a doubt given more to this forum with your knowledge and fishing gear to everyone on here who asks. Please send me a PM of new address and email. Wishing you and family good health.

Thanks for the kindly comments, guys. Means a lot.
Went through a major family upset in December and it knocked me for a loop...physically and mentally. Working my way back but have lost a lot of strength and balance. So fishing of any kind is probably not on the menu at least for a while.
I am currently living with my daughter in Saratoga Springs. Don't have my own phone line yet. But would welcome any communications by PM or to my new email address: scoutenp2@gmail.com.
Still have my computer...chock full of fish porn and PDF drivel. Be happy to share anything anyone might want or need.
Thanks for the love...TubeDude

Gary is about as annoying as you can get. I've had him pull up on me at a few lakes down here in Southern UT because I was catching fish, blowing up my spot for his show. You can clearly see me in those episodes too...such a tool!

Gary reads this board. And after one of my disparaging diatribes regarding one of his shows he PMed me...asking why I didn't like him. I was gentle. But I turned down his offer of lunch so that I could "get to know him better". It was AWESOME...AWESOME...AWESOME. How cool was that?
