Hey Chuck! Waiting on Mantua and Newton as well.
The winter that almost wasn't!
A man needs to believe in something; I believe I'll go fishing!

The very back bay of Hyrum was frozen yesterday- none of the main lake

Little bummed, it's not growing very fast... Might have to wait for the zero temps of the weekend before it will cap... J

its growing but still don't see Hyrum as a destination ice fishing spot. Cross country skiing today and maybe look at Porcupine . Saw a cat yesterday in Avon sleeping on the back of a Boer goat- fairly amusing.

I'm afraid I have to agree with you on that one, even though I don't want it to be true... but Hyrum really isn't a very good fishing lake anymore... They quit planting fish in any real numbers so it's really just become the spot I ice fish while I'm waiting for something better to get enough ice so I can fish there.... I think your ski trip might be to that spot where I'll be trying before too much longer... Given the choice between Porcupine and Hyrum, I'll drive a little further to visit the pig... It's more difficult to access, but definitely has more promise... Maybe we'll get to cross paths on the hard deck up there this winter... would be nice to finally meet you outside of the forum... I'll probably have to learn all new areas to fish since the water is so much higher this year, be kind of fun having a new lake of sorts to figure out... Later Jeff

Mostly ice capped today, but not safe walk on from main parking area or beach and still open water out from beach area. Few ice fishing by damn yesterday.

Thanks for the update, been watching it on camera, when they are working, and was counting the days till I thought I could try it... I want enough so I can take the wheeler to pull my gear, so I'm probably waiting a while before I'll try it... Or I did see a few fish off the boat ramp, so i could pull a sled out there when we get 4"... However, I'd like to find something better than I did at Newton... 3-7"ers weren't too exciting.... How do you think the perch will be in Hyrum this year? I'm really surprised they have crashed as bad as they have... It was pretty good 3 years ago and now it seems like it's hard to find small ones... Hope I was just in the wrong places on my boat trip, but we did cover a lot of area that day.... Anyway good luck and keep the updates coming... Later Jeff

Was out on Hyrum today. Fished off the boat ramp at varying depths. The bite was fast in 12ft of water for 4 to 5 inch perch. The wind today limited my patience in trying other areas. The ice was 5 to 6 inches thick.
