After dodging and weaving a big ol’ herd of elk and a big ol’ flock of sage grouse on highway 72, arrived at Dr.’s Creek about 7:40.. Walked out to about 80’ deep and set-up shop.. Didn’t mark too much all day there, high or low.. caught one rainbow there.. the fish I did mark, would come up to my bait and look and take off, changed gear and bait all day there and didn’t help much at all.. gets the juices flowing seeing a big mark coming up to ur gear in the bottom, never sure what it could be! Fished that spot until about 12, decided to move in for some perch to bring home and fry, if u get the chance fillet them and get this Louisiana breading they have at Walmart or smiths for catfish, pretty good on the perch too.. but moved in to 40’ of water and as soon as my jig hit the weeds, it stirred-up the hornets nest! It was perch after perch, good sized ones too.. ended up with about 30 perch in an hour and a half, throw in some rainbows, splake, and yes, even a Mac puppy! All trout were released, only perch were harmed in this trip! Did notice that when a bigger mark came threw while fishing for perch, the perch would disappear for a bit, but would be right back after the bigger mark was gone.. wish I had a camera too see what the activity was like down there when that happens.. anyway, good day for perch, not so good for trout..

We were up there as well. Pretty slow for us out deeper. We did manage one decent one and a couple of small to medium pups. Very few fish suspended or upper water column out deep this year as well. How thick was the ice where you were at? We had about 4 to 7 “ on th north end, thicker closer to shore.

How was the wind? Had a very bad expieriance there last year. The big W came up and ripped the corners off of our tent.

There was about 7 inches where I was at.. the wind as usual picked up about 1, but before that it was nice and calm and the when it did pick-up it was off and on, but not bad at all, infact i didn’t put my tent up when I moved in for the perch.. was definitely one of the nicer days for me at fish lake weather wise.. the ice however seemed to be choppy.. when I was putting in one of my tent stakes, I had about a good 1/4 inch chunk about 8 inches pop out.. almost like a slushy ice, not that it was slushy, just the consistency of it to me, and she was sure talking yesterday, had a few pops and cracks under me and my holes.. not sure if they will have the perch tourney, guess we will find out on the 1st! Any advice for anybody going down in the near future, take ice cleats.. down towards the joe bush side, didn’t look like there was any snow at all on the ice and where there is snow on the north side, there isn’t much at all and once that sun hits the ice, boy it is slick!

If there is any risk of safety to those participating in the tourney, they will certainly cancel. 1 accident would mean the end of the perch tournament forever.
With another couple weeks of warm temps, open water, and soft edges -- I wouldn't bet on a tournament.
My personal opinion is that it is simply too risky to hold a tournament with the current ice conditions at Fish Lake.
