Hit Hyrum today and since I was with a trout guy we trolled for an hour or so and had 4-5 fish on but didn't land one. They felt like monster 8" planters so we weren't too heart broken. Plus I wanted to try out the new Marcum LX-7. Can I say in love with a machine? Anyway we anchored up over a perch pile and went to figuring out the new machine. Didn't take but a second. Then getting the right lure and bait, oh and BTW everything we tried worked. Fish were ultra aggressive so I'd lower my offering down to 2' from bottom and watch the fish race up from the bottom and grab my lure. It was fish all day steady. We got a dozen or two bass around 6-8" then perch were there on and off all day probably caught a couple dozen of those. Only a few were 8-10" but I think I kept half dozen or so of them. Plus a few bait size to try on the cats. It was a fun day and loved the new finder it was so nice to see exactly what the fish were doing and then figure out how to tease them into hitting it was a blast. Must say this finder is light years ahead of the boat finder I had been using. At least for always being consistent with letting me see my jig and the fish. My old one would work once in awhile and was good then but most of the time you couldn't see your jig. So this is really nice. Thumbs up from me. Later J

Oh yeah, by the way that thing about big bait for big fish, was really true today.... I was using my tiny tungsten lure and catching 4"ers, changed to a 1.5" jig and ended up with the 10"ers and it really didn't slow the action much either... But I didn't learn that until just before we left, so not sure the bigger would have worked all day but it helped me catch a few nice ones... (for Hyrum) I know they are bait size for any real perch lake... but I think last year 8"ers were the best I could find, so it's a little improvement...Later J

Sweet- that is great to hear. The last 2 weeks previous it was tough finding them.

They were bunched up by swim beach. Lot of area didn't have much there, but that area had some good perch piles. I'm sure location makes a lot of difference on catch rates. It's nice to be mobile in a boat to find them and a lot tougher through the ice. Hope I figure out where to try by the time the ice sets. Good luck. J

As long as you hold your boat steady it works great. I had to put an anchor on both ends so my light jigs stayed under me and in the cone. We had breezes from all directions so I needed more than one anchor. Give it a try it was great!! J

That is the calmest I think I have ever seen Hyrum on a Saturday

Hey Forest a little later the power squad showed, but he was the most courteous one I ever seen. He went to the opposite side of the pond and only ran in the area where none of the fishing boats were. Good guy for sure. It was unreal glassy calm and gorgeous leaves and blue sky. Doesn't get any better. Hope your trip to Utah Lake turned out as nice. Later J

Thanks Mike it was nice to get out again. Won't be long and I'll be over to see you again. I love that fall fishing over there. Wonder if I can pick a day without wind and hold the boat still enough to use the new finder. Hope so that would be fun. Hope you're starting to free up some time, be fun to fish with ya again. Till then good luck. J

No wind is what I'm praying for! We filled our deer and elk tags, so my fall schedule is open!

Thank you, wasn't a lot of exciting fish but was steady action. I should note they aren't easy to hook. My FIL couldn't catch them, but his reflexes aren't as quick as they used to be. They kept stilling his bait and driving him nuts. I might have missed my share as well. Later J
