Redmond Lake Reports??
#1
hi,

So i never here any reports about redmond lake, good or bad, near Salina, UT and Redmond, UT. I know it has pike and catfish in it but any reports of how the fishing is, and what bait or lure to use? any help would be appreciated. I am going to school near this lake and want to catch my first pike!

I haven't been there in years, but the couple of times I went there I found a decent amount of pike. They were on the small side, upper teens to low 20s, but still fun. I also caught largemouth there and the carp were everywhere. I remember catching them on Sluggos and just a plain old 3" grub. I don't know what it is about curly tail grubs, but I've caught plenty of chain pickerel, northerns and tiger musky on them. Those toothy critters love them, though they bite them off a lot.

People also fish down there with anchovies under a bobber. Most of them seem to fish on the northern end where the water is deeper to the left of the boat launch area.

There is a spring in the middle where it is deeper water. Years ago a nice frozen minnow hanging under a bobber worked great, just stay close to your pole . They do a hit and run. Throw the rig out close to the weed line.

Don't know for sure, but would guess that there might be a slight water problem at Redmond. It is very small and the main use of the water is irrigation. With the drought and all, my guess is that there is not much left in it !!

I have only fished it in the spring, March was good water and good fish, only a bout 20 inch long. I think it doesn't freeze, warm spring?

I think you're right about the springs. I remember fishing it in February when I was at Snow College and it was wide open. I was determined to catch a pike on a fly rod that day, but all I caught was a small largemouth.

The best fishing for pike at Redmond is usually during the winter months. The majority of the small lake will stay mostly open and I have never seen it completely freeze over. I used to fish it every winter for pike with my fly rod. Once the novelty of catching pike wore off, though, I quit going. I haven't fished it for a few years, but generally, it has quite a few pike that can be caught with bait or lures if you put in some time.
