Mlk weekend at Mead

I am planning on heading down next week w/boat to Echo bay. The only place I have caught fish in the past was the Virgin Inlet. I hope to cruise over to the Colorado Inlet this time. I guess I will pick up anchovies. Has anyone had any luck trolling for stripers or is it better to use bait. Both worked in the past for me.

I've done fine trolling all kinds of stuff. Swimbaits (4-6") / cranks (Lucky Craft pointers, Strike King 6XD and 10XD, etc) have done me right. The issue is when they are deep one just can't get anything down to them that is trolled at 2-3mph w/o a downrigger. Then one can't beat a live bait. Dead/frozen baits will catch one now and then but nothing like something that is alive.

Got back today. First night got one striper chumming the narrows. Caught two cats the next morning doing same. Got bored so made the run to South Cove for the first time. There are definitely more fish there. Caught a few trolling rapalas. In the early morning the fish were boiling. I caught two casting from shore. Camped one night at Sandy Point then last night near Temple Bar. Saw no boats both ways between Echo and Temple and only Two at South Cove. I think if I lived in Vegas I would definitely drive to South Cove over Echo. All stripers I caught were fat and very tasty. Some had shad in them.
