The last weekend of May my son and I are heading over to Lake Walcott for smallies. We've got a boat.
I've never fished this lake, so can anyone offer tips or techniques for catching smallies? Any information would be much appreciated.

Watch the locals, it's a prespawn bite. Trolling for trout is on also good. Rapalas and shad raps. Be careful some of the locals think their salmon fishing. Lol
Be happy to show you around.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll arrive Thursday evening, and leave Sunday morning. I've got a white 17 ft Lund Fisherman, Merc 115/9.9. Hope to see you there.

Nope, Basshunters is at American falls that day, or we'd be all over it. Thanks for donating, you can send them to Phil Mia, Brads place or to me. Your trounament was the buzz at magic valleys open.
Hope Bob caught some fish this weekend. I had to work till afternoon.

Spent two days at Walcott, first time there, only going for the bass. Sunday the wind whipped the lake into a froth, but in spite of the blast we caught one smallie. Monday the wind settled down and we finally figured out where the structures are and caught a few relatively small ones. Thanks to a forum member for giving us a tip or two about where to fish, it helped a lot! I guess having never fished it before, we did all right - BUT nothing like the guys we talked to who (said they) caught a big bunch of 5-6 lb'ers.
It seemed like 90% of the folks were fishing for trout and of those that I talked to none of them had caught more than 1 fish. Water temp was 60-62 degrees and the bass are in pre-spawn.
